Finance Business Partner – R&D - Boulder, CO

Particle Measuring Systems (PMS) sets the standard for cleanroom contamination monitoring. We create the technology that enables our customers to make fact-based decisions, improve process yields and comply with ever-changing regulatory requirements.
The Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Business Partner to join our growing team at Particle Measuring Systems. The Finance Business Partner – R&D role will focus on providing financial analysis and support to the Research & Development (R&D) department. You will play a critical role in analyzing new project financial business cases, tracking project costs, allocating costs between R&D programs, and supporting end-of-life forecasting activities. This role will report directly to the Senior Financial Planning and Analysis Manager but will maintain a close relationship with the CTO and their direct reports.
Specific Job Responsibilities
- Financial Business Case Analysis:
- Collaborate with R&D teams to analyze and develop financial business cases for new projects.
- Evaluate project feasibility, ROI, and financial impact to support decision-making.
- Cost Tracking and Analysis:
- Track actual project costs against approved business cases and budgets.
- Identify variances and provide timely insights to R&D teams and management.
- Cost Allocation Between R&D Programs:
- Allocate costs accurately between different R&D programs and initiatives.
- Ensure proper cost allocation methodologies are applied and documented.
- End of Life Forecasting:
- Support end-of-life forecasting for products and projects within the R&D portfolio.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess financial implications and plan accordingly.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare regular financial reports and analysis for R&D projects and initiatives.
- Present findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the annual budgeting process for R&D expenses and capital expenditures.
- Provide accurate and insightful forecasts based on project timelines and resource requirements.
- Financial Governance and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Implement financial controls and processes to safeguard company assets.

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA, CMA, or similar certification is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial analysis role, preferably within a manufacturing environment or R&D-intensive environment. Accounting experience is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Experience with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
The Details
Location – This is position is “in-office” approximately 75-100% of the time. The remainder of the time you may work from home. These percentages are targets with the actual schedule to be determined in conjunction with the Manager's expectations for the position. The location of this position is in Boulder, CO; anticipated move to Niwot, CO in mid-2025. Local candidates will receive first consideration.

Pay Range
$95,000 - 145,000 depending upon experience
How we determine what we pay (compensation philosophy)
Particle Measuring Systems determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for the Boulder, Colorado area. We will evaluate external equity, which is the relative marketplace job worth of jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.
For new hires, we to make competitive offers between the minimum and around the midpoint of the range. This allows the new employee room for future merit increases during review cycles. There may be times when we will offer above the midpoint. The decision to do so will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and the compensation rates of the employees within the company doing the same position.
