Purpose:

The Senior Finance Business Partner is responsible for providing direction and leadership in the financial planning and management of the bank's strategies and is responsible for driving sound strategic financial decision making. You will partner with the business by providing effective financial management, insight and professional advice to the Executive, Senior leaders and business teams. You will also ensure access to critical financial information; provide commercially insightful financial advice; and proactively educate and challenge business leaders to understand and utilise this for decision-making, financial stewardship, and performance measurement against functional business plans.

As a member of the Finance Team and clearly responsible for their functional areas of expertise the incumbent is also expected to think and act in the wider context and interests of the client. For example, contribution to the development and delivery of overall strategy, marketplace and Member outcomes, innovation and cultural development

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to:
    • Chief Financial Officer or to any other representative of the Employer designated from time to time by the Employer.
  • Financial Analysis & Planning:
    • Partner with senior leadership and key stakeholders to provide strategic financial advice and recommendations that drive growth and enhance bank performance.
    • Responsible for the annual budget cycle, regular forecasting and scenario planning, ensuring all assumptions, drivers and levers are understood by business teams and other stakeholders.
    • Responsible for working closely with the pricing and product teams to understand and support decisions that influence growth and net interest margin.
    • Identify opportunities for revenue growth, cost management and ultimately to deliver improved margin across the business through in-depth analysis, tracking and reporting.
    • Conducts business analysis, financial planning and reporting that generates business insights and adds measurable value.
    • Collecting, assimilating and synthesizing relevant business, operating environment or competitor information to develop fact-based recommendations and support business decision making.
    • Producing and analysing profitability reports relating to our products, businesses and investments to ensure deployed capital is achieving expected returns.
    • Producing ad-hoc analysis to meet evolving business requirements.
    • Champion process improvements and system enhancements to streamline financial operations and maximise efficiency.
  • Projects:
    • Undertake comprehensive modelling and analysis for key projects to provide advice on feasibility and financial impact.
    • Identify, oversee, and deliver key projects across the business that deliver improvement in long term viability and financial performance.
  • Health and Safety:
    • Fulfils their obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 by complying with the company’s health and safety policies and procedures.
    • Takes reasonable care to look after their own health and safety, fitness for work, and the health and safety of others, including members.
    • Ensures that no action or inaction on their part results in injury or illness to either themselves or to others.
    • Identifies and notifies all hazards.
    • Reports all accidents, incidents, near misses and hazards to their Manager, or another person in charge immediately.
    • Attends and actively participates in health and safety discussions and training.
    • Effectively uses personal protective equipment and clothing supplied for all work that requires it.
  • Operational Activities:
    • Contributes to the flow of communication within the team, by actively participating in team meetings, sharing ideas, providing assistance, providing training support and demonstrating a collaborative approach.
    • Responsible for ensuring familiarity with and adherence to internal Client policy and procedures.
    • Provides information and reports to the Chief Financial Officer as requested.
    • Performs other such duties as may be reasonably required by the Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
      • Tertiary Qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Economics, or equivalent.
      • 10+ years (minimum) finance experience in senior management decision-making, planning and strategic thinking.
      • Experience in a financial planning and analysis within a large, complex organisation.
      • Commercial acumen and ability to identify opportunities to enhance financial performance.
      • Advanced financial modelling skills and solid systems accounting knowledge/experience.
      • Excellent presentation skills including preparing slides that simply convey key messages.
      • Solid understanding of economic fundamentals.
      • Outstanding leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, driving collaboration and results.
      • Passionate about always making things better.
      • Collaborative with ability to build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships.
      • Proactive with plenty of initiative and sound problem solving and decision-making skills.
      • Strong communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.
      • Excellent organisational skills and ability to respond positively to workflow pressure.
      • Strong analytical, interpretation and research skills.
      • Good attention to detail.
  • Preferred:
    • Membership of Chartered Accountants Australia & NZ (CA or ACA College).
    • Post graduate Financial Qualification.
    • Experience in banking or financial institutions.
    • Experience in building financial capability within the business.
    • Experience in analysing technical issues and making decisions with financial impact.
    • Previous leadership experience including supervision and development of team members.
