Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated intern to join our team for 5-6 months and work on improving an open-source debugging software tool, OpenOCD, to facilitate the development of the Metis AI Processing Unit (AIPU). This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a significant project that will enhance the debugging experience for our hardware and software teams and the broader open-source community.
Key responsibilities:
Enhance OpenOCD to support Zephyr OS threads on RISC-V architecture.
Collaborate with hardware and software teams to understand debugging requirements for the Metis chip.
Implement and test functionalities to manage multiple threads on RISC-V cores.
Study existing OpenOCD thread management for ARM architectures.
Understand the Metis AIPU architecture and Zephyr OS.
Develop and test changes in OpenOCD with various debugging scenarios.
Document the development process, changes, and testing methodologies.
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Strong programming skills in C and familiarity with embedded systems.
Knowledge of RISC-V architecture and experience with the Zephyr operating system is highly desirable.
Experience with open-source projects and tools, particularly OpenOCD, is a plus.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Location
We offer a flexible working arrangement, with options to work in a hybrid set up from one of our Axelera AI offices in the Netherlands (Amsterdam and Eindhoven) or the UK (Bristol).
We do not offer remote internships at this point.
