Job description

Sr. Optical Telecommunications Engineer
Portland, OR (onsite)

Provide expert level engineering design and support of Optical Communications networks for electrical system operations. Responsibilities include design and provisioning documentation of telecommunications equipment specifically including Ciena 6500 and 3926 switches. As well as supporting and updating tdm channel designs to be carried across the optical networks.

Responsibilities-

Develop plan for software upgrade of approximately 60 Ciena 6500 chassis currently in service.
Work with Ciena to develop MOP to efficiently migrate all units with minimum impact on operational traffic. Work with field communications technicians to execute planned software upgrades. Trouble shoot any issues which may arise during this effort.
Support Gateway West project with new expansion to existing system, adding four new 6500/3926 sites, with integration/modification at two existing sites. Project involves 10G and 100G packet infrastructure, VLANs, G.8032 ERP, system synchronization. Review MOP provided by other contract engineers and document feedback as required. Work with field communications technicians to execute MOP provided by contract engineers. Design VLAN plan in existing system to support expansion project. Work with field communications technicians to execute planned VLAN additions in existing system. Trouble shoot any issues which may arise during this effort.
Support Gateway West project with new expansion to existing system, adding seven new 6500/3926 sites, with integration/modification at two existing sites. Project involves DWDM/OTN/10G/100G packet infrastructure, VLANs, G.8032 ERP, system synchronization.
Review MOP provided by other contract engineers and document feedback as required.
Work with field communications technicians to execute MOP provided by contract engineers.
Design VLAN plan in existing system to support expansion project. Work with field communications technicians to execute planned VLAN additions in existing system. Trouble shoot any issues which may arise during this effort.Ongoing support of VLAN and G.8032 ERP provisioning in Ciena 6500 & 3926 devices. TDM circuit (T1, DS3, OC3) provisioning in Ciena 3926 devices. System synchronization provisioning in Ciena 6500 & 3926 devices. OTN provisioning in Ciena 6500 devices. DWDM provisioning in Ciena 6500 devices.
Provide design and implementation support for VLAN and G.8032 ERP provisioning in Aviat Eclipse/INU devices.
Provide trouble shooting assistance to field communications technicians as needed to support installed base of: Ciena 3926 service delivery switches. Ciena 6500 Packet/OTN/DWDM nodes, and Alcatel/Lucent DMX SONET nodes
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Requirements-

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically four years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of two years additional directly related technical experience is required.)
Minimum five years of applicable telecommunications or networking experience.
Expert level engineering knowledge of Ciena 6500 and 3000 devices as well as VLAN, G.8032 ERP, and TDM circuits.
Familiarity with Aviat Eclipse/INU devices.
