Job Overview

Position Schedule: Full-Time

The Senior Director, Operations is a registered supervisor of Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) with overall responsibility for Canada Operations Division within the Canada Business Unit.

The role involves strategically ensuring integration and alignment with Firm and Canada Business Unit needs, direction, risk, strategy, and regulatory environment. In addition, prioritize and sequence Operational initiatives to enhance the impact our Financial Advisors strive to have on the lives of our clients and their families, thus creating an ideal client experience.

Responsible to the division's General Partner this executive leader sits on the senior leadership group, along with other General Partners and senior leaders of the division. The role has full responsibility for over 100 associates with several tiers of management.

Responsibilities

  • Executive oversight and strong understanding of a broad variety of investment operational areas including but not limited to: account onboarding and activation, securities and money movement, registered account processing, Trade settlement and corrections, Mutual fund processing, corporate actions, security processing, Reconciliation, Client Tax reporting.
  • Responsible for working cross functionally to identify strategy and drive results in alignment with the division and firm's direction including structure, talent, and objectives.
  • Accountable for the division's systems and processes including client and branch facing systems downstream impact, the risks and controls, industry process and procedures related to the area, and existing relevant rules and regulations.
  • Proactively identify changing rules and regulations for the financial industry, Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) including qualified intermediary (QI).
  • Develop new procedures and systems to ensure compliance; Anticipate current and future business needs and ensure the systems and processes are developed to handle these needs.
  • Drive organizational business evolution and technology innovation through a deep understanding of the Canada brokerage operations landscape and industry leading practices.
  • Engage with Legal and Compliance stakeholders to define solutions/processes that fit within the regulatory framework, to build scale, capacity and contribute to creating an ideal client and branch experience.
  • Vendor oversight of outsourced technology (e.g, Broadridge, Fundserv) and outsourced resourcing.

Skills/Requirements

  • Ten or more years of relevant Financial Services and/or Public Accounting experience with a minimum of seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience required. Experience with tax oversight, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) tax rules is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Concentration in business, accounting, finance, or management preferred. Advanced degree or CPA is a plus.
  • Conduct and Practices Handbook exam and Partners, Director, Senior Officers exam required within 120 days of hire.
  • Canadian Securities Course and Life License Qualification Program (LLQP) must be completed within 12 months of hire.
  • Industry experience including demonstrated knowledge of regulatory obligations and expectations with strong understanding of the major functions in Canada brokerage Operations, and how they interact, including account activation and onboarding, asset movement, trade operations and portfolio rebalancing, clearing, custody and client reporting, products, and services.
  • Experience leading geographically dispersed multi-cultural teams within a complex organization.
  • Experience leading complex technology initiatives through project leaders, internal and external stakeholders providing guidance/ direction and influence key decisions.
