We’re on a mission to provide equitable access to economic opportunity, for everyone.
We close critical skill gaps in the workforce through a new kind of apprenticeship that combines work and learning. We begin by recognizing high-potential individuals both inside and outside of a company's current workforce and then we create applied, guided and equitable learning programs, with measurable impact. Because we believe the world needs a better way to match its potential.
We work with over 1,000 leading companies including the likes of Microsoft, Citi and Just Eat to help solve their business-critical problems, and we’ve trained over 12,000 professional apprentices in the tech and data skills of the future. This is made possible by our global team who are driven to achieve a mission that matters, together.
Join Multiverse and help us set a new course for work.
Requirements:
It’s an incredible time to join the Engineering team at Multiverse as we build an outstanding alternative to university. You have a real opportunity to shape the team - and the entire company - at a critical stage in our growth.
If you’re looking to solve complex and compelling engineering challenges in a collaborative environment, and are motivated by having a significant, genuinely positive impact on people’s lives, then we would love to talk with you.
Our goal is to provide you with encouragement and autonomy to do the best work of your career. We want to create a caring, understanding environment where everyone can thrive.
You will enjoy being a Software Engineer at Multiverse if:
You want to do work that makes a difference
You want your opinion to matter
You want opportunities to learn and grow
You’ll help us answer meaningful questions, including:
How can we provide the best possible experience to apprentices through our bespoke learning management system?
How do we support apprentices in consolidating their learning, showcasing their new skills, and opening doors in their career?
How can we use data to generate insights about apprentices that increase retention, engagement, and success?
How do we use AI to accelerate and enhance learning, while keeping people at the heart of the apprenticeship journey?
How can we improve the quality of our education while growing it internationally, at scale?
How can we make apprenticeships the preferred way of learning around the world?
We work according to four principles:
We want a happy team - one where everyone feels like they are doing their best work
We want to ship ideas quickly and measure the impact of our work - because time changes problems
We aim for no surprises. We own the pivot and constantly optimise for increased business value
We prioritise code quality and take pride in our craft - and the impact it has on our users
We enjoy “10% time” where we’re free to play with new technologies, contribute to open source, or simply experiment to see what we can build. We practise collaboration, prototype new ideas in Hackathons, and share our learnings with the team in weekly informal training sessions. We have a generous training budget to spend on a huge selection of courses, books and more via Learnably.
Our Learning Management System, Ariel, is built in Python and React, and this role would best suit someone with proven experience building commercial web apps using this stack; but we choose the right technologies and platforms for each use case.
Other technologies in use at Multiverse include Elixir, Phoenix, Postgres, LiveView, Elm, Docker, Terraform & AWS; and while this role doesn’t require prior experience of these (you’ll be working in Python/React) there will be the opportunity to build your knowledge of them, should you wish.
About you:
You’re an experienced full stack engineer and have a solid understanding of software development principles and practices
You have experience building commercial web applications using Python and React
You have worked with TypeScript, Django, GraphQL, Postgres, or similar related technologies
You are well versed in the fundamentals and pro’s & con’s of both monolithic and microservice architectures (we are moving from mono to micro)
You care about building reliable, accessible and well-tested systems for the web
You have an appreciation for simple, maintainable design
You take a collaborative approach to problem solving
You thrive in a culture of knowledge-sharing and peer review
You enjoy mentoring and supporting the development of your colleagues - and you’re excited about working with our Software Engineering apprentices
