Job Purpose:

The Market-Creating Innovation (MCI) team is at the centre of WVC’s (World Vision Canada’s) innovation hub. We are focused on building a digitally enabled organization and exploring new engagement and market opportunities to help everyone be a philanthropist. We work in agile with a lean startup approach and design thinking, asking our team of developers, designers, advisors, and experts to think beyond and find effective and efficient technology-infused solutions that put people at the centre of everything that we deliver. Our work will be instrumental in laying the foundation to build a new digital ecosystem for WVC.

The role of Product Designer involves leading the design and development of digital initiatives aimed at facilitating philanthropy and positive impact. This includes designing forward-thinking digital products in the non-profit space and solving design challenges with a tinkering mindset. The design process emphasizes psychological and social dynamics, community and network engagement, and rigorous validation through A/B testing and user studies.

Working closely with the product owner, technical architect, and development team, the Product Designer defines user experience, design systems, and visual design to align with organizational goals, technical constraints, and user needs. Responsibilities include conducting user research, usability testing, and data analysis to inform design decisions, as well as creating wireframes, prototypes, and final design deliverables. Maintaining a scalable and consistent design system across platform features is also crucial.

As a key member of the team, the Product Designer helps identify and mitigate design risks and ensures successful platform launch aligned with organizational mission and performance metrics. Effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams are essential for platform success and the incubator team's goals. **

Responsibilities:**

  • Work independently with minimal guidance to create holistic design solutions that are thorough and thoughtful.
  • Work proactively to ensure project goals are met in a timely fashion.
  • Translate design thinking into best-practice design processes, methodologies, and principles
  • Understand and operate under the lean startup model; in particular, the build-measure-learn cycle.
  • Utilize the JTBD framework to ensure your design fulfills spoken and unspoken needs of the user.
  • Develop user personas, journey maps, service design blueprints, information architecture. diagrams, and other design artefacts based on the needs of the difference phases of a project
  • Privilege a mobile-first approach to all your design solutions.
  • Translate concepts into wireframes, low- and high-fidelity mock-ups, prototypes, and production-ready designs for development hand-off.
  • Iterate designs via validated learning from product performance metrics.
  • Plan and execute UX research to understand user expectations, behaviours and needs to validate and optimize design solutions.
  • Establish and maintain a new design system to ensure design-dev alignment and to enable design consistency at scale.
  • Win stakeholders over through effective communication and engaging storytelling.
  • Apply inclusive design principles to ensure that designs adhere to accessibility and web standards (WCAG 2.0 AA).

Desired Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in human-computer interaction, UX design, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years professional experience designing digital products and experiences, including digital platforms for mobile and desktop.
  • Hands-on experience collaborating with developers.
  • Well-rounded design practitioner in visual design, interaction design, UI design, and UX design.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma and Adobe CC.
  • Experience working in a startup environment.
  • Experience creating successful digital products from scratch.
  • Technical knowledge in front-end development frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience creating user research plans, recruiting participants, facilitating user research, analyzing findings and delivering insights.
  • Experience leveraging AI in your design solutions and/or to augment your own work process.
