Job description

At Serve Robotics, we’re reimagining how things move in cities. Our personable sidewalk robot is our vision for the future. It’s designed to take deliveries away from congested streets, make deliveries available to more people, and benefit local businesses.

The Serve fleet has been delighting merchants, customers, and pedestrians along the way in Los Angeles while doing commercial deliveries. We’re looking for talented individuals who will grow robotic deliveries from surprising novelty to efficient ubiquity.

Who We Are

We are tech industry veterans in software, hardware, and design who are pooling our skills to build the future we want to live in. We are solving real-world problems leveraging robotics, machine learning and computer vision, among other disciplines, with a mindful eye towards the end-to-end user experience. Our team is agile, diverse, and driven. We believe that the best way to solve complicated dynamic problems is collaboratively and respectfully.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Delivery Platform team, you will design and build highly scalable and robust systems that power our Delivery and Fleet Management platforms. You’ll spend most of your time coding, designing, and reviewing Elixir code, contributing to mission-critical infrastructure that supports our growing fleet of delivery robots. You’ll collaborate closely with other engineers and stakeholders to ensure that our systems meet the demands of scale and innovation in the logistics domain.

Responsibilities

  • Architect & Develop: Design, implement, and maintain distributed systems in Elixir, focusing on scalability, fault tolerance, and performance.

  • Platform Contributions: Work on the Delivery and Fleet Management platforms, supporting uptime, reliability, and evolving product needs.

  • Scaling & Performance: Identify bottlenecks, devise solutions, and optimize systems to handle rapid increases in traffic and data volume.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with product managers, operations, and fellow engineers to align solutions with business and user needs.

  • Engineering Rigor: Contribute to best practices in testing, CI/CD, and development workflows to ensure continuous improvement and delivery.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in software development

  • Technical Experience:

    • 2+ years of experience with Elixir or Erlang, ideally in building scalable, distributed systems.

    • Solid understanding of concurrency, fault tolerance, and event-driven architectures.

    • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.

  • Team Collaboration:

    • Experience working on cross-functional teams in agile environments.

    • Clear communicator comfortable discussing both technical and product-related topics.

  • Hands-On Engineering:

    • Strong interest in crafting well-designed, production-grade systems and tools.

    • A passion for backend development, systems thinking, and performance optimization.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Deep Curiosity: You have a natural drive to understand complex systems and improve them.

  • Ownership Mentality: You treat problems as opportunities and take initiative in solving them.

  • Commitment to Quality: You value code clarity, testing, and building systems that are reliable and resilient.

  • Team-Oriented: You enjoy working with others, learning from peers, and sharing what you know.

  • Interest in Logistics: You're intrigued by delivery, robotics, and transportation, and excited by the challenges of real-world logistics platforms.
