Job Summary:

The Junior Bookkeeper will assist with maintaining accurate financial records for our clients. This position involves handling various bookkeeping tasks, including data entry, reconciling accounts, ad hoc administration tasks and assisting with financial reports.

The ideal candidate will be organised, possess strong numerical skills, and have a keen interest in developing their client management expertise.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The position requires you to report to the Senior Bookkeeper

  • Accurately enter financial transactions into accounting software, ensuring proper coding and classification.
  • Assist in reconciling bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts on a regular basis.
  • Process and record accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payment and collection.
  • Assist in preparing financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and firm policies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the efficiency of the bookkeeping function.

Skills:

  • Up to 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience is preferred; relevant internships or part-time work experience will also be considered.
  • Basic understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) is advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Technical Requirements - Training to be provided

  • Perform bank reconciliation
  • Can prepare sales invoices in the client's accounting system
  • Enter the supplier's tax invoices in the client's accounting system
  • Process payments of A/P and collections of A/R
  • Can resolve the recurring reconciling items showing in the reconciliation reports, like Bank Reconciliation, Trade Payables/Receivables
  • Draft activity statements (BAS/IAS) for review
  • Payroll (Australian) Experience / Specialisation
  • Can do payroll data entry processing and able to reconcile with relevant records
  • Process superannuation obligations and do relevant reconciliations
  • Understanding of the flow of accounting transactions up the financial statements level
  • Have a good understanding of the ATO portal and its use
  • Can liaise with accountants (internal & external)
  • Can liaise directly with the Firm's clients when required

  • ATO Online Services (previously ATO Portal)
