Position Summary

The Director of Marketing and Communications is a senior leadership position responsible for executing a high-impact, integrated communications strategy that elevates ROGA’s reputation, engages stakeholders, and amplifies its responsible gaming mission. This individual will manage internal and external communications, lead media relations and public outreach, messaging coordination with external partners, and oversee member communications and public-facing campaigns.

The Director of Marketing and Communications will lead the development and execution of a strategic, organization-wide communications and marketing agenda. This senior leadership position is responsible for shaping the Association’s public narrative, amplifying thought leadership, building visibility, and driving multi-platform campaigns that resonate with key audiences including policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and the public. The Director will report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with ROGA leadership and members to ensure our communications reflect the mission and impact of the organization.



Main Responsibilities

Strategic Communications and Leadership

  • Develop and implement a forward-looking marketing and communications strategy aligned with the Association’s mission, goals, and strategic priorities.
  • Serve as the lead architect of the brand, ensuring clarity, consistency, and resonance across all communications and channels.
  • Provide communications counsel to the Executive Director, Board, and working groups.
  • Reputation Management and Media Relations
  • Lead the development of proactive and responsive media strategies to position the Association as a trusted voice on responsible gaming.
  • Oversee all media outreach, including leading the writing, editing, and distribution of press releases, op-eds, executive interviews, talking points, quotes, and responses to public inquiries or emerging issues.
  • Serve as lead strategic counsel for crisis communications and issues management coordinating plans and responses with relevant external partners
  • Manage relationships with media and industry partners to expand reach and impact.
  • Speak on behalf of ROGA with media, as needed.



Campaign Development and Digital Strategy

  • Design and oversee strategic campaigns to support responsible gaming education, regulatory collaboration, industry best practices, and consumer awareness initiatives.
  • Direct content strategy and creation across digital channels (web, email, social media, publications, and video) to elevate the organization’s profile and thought leadership.
  • Ensure content reflects evidence-based approaches and is accessible, engaging, and inclusive.
  • Organizational and Member Communications
  • Create and distribute communications to ROGA members regarding strategic priorities, policy developments, and key initiatives.
  • Draft internal memos, newsletters, slide decks, and other collateral that aligns with ROGA’s mission and brand.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging and timely delivery of content.
  • Assist the Executive Director in the development of Board meeting materials, briefing items, and other Board communications.



Stakeholder Engagement and Events

  • Lead communication efforts for initiatives, stakeholder briefings, awareness campaigns, annual reports, and other publications.
  • Oversee promotional strategies and content for events, webinars, and trainings in collaboration with program and policy teams.
  • Partner with trade associations, nonprofit organizations, universities, and regulatory bodies to co-create and disseminate shared messages.
  • Partner with public relations and public affairs consulting firms on campaign strategies and public messaging.
  • Support communications planning and execution at industry events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings, including development of speeches, talking points, and presentations for ROGA principals.
  • Team Management and Performance Evaluation
  • Manage a team of marketing, design, and communications consultants and vendors.
  • Collaborate with program, research, and policy teams to translate insights and initiatives into public-facing content.
  • Establish KPIs and evaluate performance of marketing and communications efforts to ensure measurable impact and continuous improvement.
  • All other duties as assigned.



Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in progressively senior marketing and communications roles, including at least 3 years in a leadership position.
  • Proven success in developing and leading strategic communications and branding initiatives at the organizational level.
  • Strong media relations skills, including experience managing press, crisis communications, and executive visibility.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, with demonstrated ability to translate complex ideas into accessible content for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience managing digital strategy, content production, and marketing analytics.
  • Prior experience in or familiarity with responsible gaming is required.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.



Preferred:

  • Experience working in or with mission-driven associations, non-profits, advocacy organizations, or public policy environments.
  • Working knowledge of behavioral health, consumer protection, or gambling regulatory issues.
