Job description

Are you an experienced problem solver? Are you naturally inquisitive with an analytical mind? Do you possess some prior professional experience and aptitude for supporting police operations and criminal investigations? Are you passionate about finding potential solutions to challenging law enforcement problems and helping the Prince William County Police Department develop analytical strategies and plans to help prevent and solve crimes to build safer neighborhoods? Then consider joining our team!

The Department seeks to expand its analytical capabilities. As a key role in that mission, we are seeking qualified candidates to serve as a Senior Public Safety Analyst (Senior Criminal Intelligence Analyst). Together with the other members of our strategic analysis team, the Senior Criminal Intelligence Analyst will help the agency harness our investigative information, crime data, and intelligence via enhanced reporting processes, trend analysis, and briefings.

About This Role

The Senior Criminal Intelligence Analyst would play a leading and crucial role in enhancing the operational efficiency of our police department by researching and analyzing data/intelligence and providing actionable insights and information to support policing strategies and investigative efforts. The key job duties will include research and analysis of law enforcement data; identification and interpretation of criminal activity, patterns, and trends; forecasting trends to aid in staffing and deployment of personnel; and providing investigative support. The Senior Criminal Intelligence Analyst also assists in the training of new analysts and conducts peer review of analytical work products and methodologies. In collaboration with the other members of the strategic analysis team, this position would greatly expand our real-time analytical capabilities and our ability to enhance law enforcement operations and meet and exceed the modern demands and expectations of contemporary community policing. The selected candidates should be adept at using popular analytic software, capable of quickly learning new programs, and knowledgeable in research and analysis techniques, including developing collection plans and applying critical thinking to complex data. Strong organizational skills are necessary, including managing multiple priorities, maintaining accurate records, and following instructions. The ability to work effectively with personnel at all levels and other agencies is essential, as is the capacity to work semi-independently, prioritize tasks, and produce high-quality results with minimal supervision.

Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. and 5 years relevant experience in data, crime, or intelligence analysis within law enforcement, intelligence agencies, or public safety settings, or research in public safety, or government service.
