Job description

Role Overview 

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Technical Writer to create clear, concise, accessible and accurate documentation for our critical programs and initiatives related to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of technical, regulatory and legislative concepts, excellent writing and communication skills, and advanced proficiency in document formatting and layout, including expertise in Microsoft Word and Adobe InDesign. Adeptness in leveraging generative AI tools to enhance efficiency, streamline content creation, and accelerate research will be a key differentiator for this role. You will collaborate with subject matter experts to develop a variety of documents, ensuring consistency in tone, adherence to CAA’s style guide and effective use of templates. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Research, write and edit technical documents, such as program plans, plan amendments, producer guidance documents and other related materials.
  • Transform complex information from subject matter experts into clear, concise and user-friendly documentation.
  • Ensure a consistent voice and adherence to CAA's style guide and templates across all materials, making necessary adjustments to maintain consistency.
  • Collaborate effectively with subject matter experts (e.g., program managers, legal counsel, operations staff) to gather necessary information.
  • Synthesize and incorporate feedback from diverse stakeholders, maintaining document accuracy and consistency.
  • Participate in document reviews and provide constructive feedback on others' work. 
  • Ensure consistency, clarity and alignment of documentation with regulatory standards and company branding.
  • Maintain version control and document management systems (e.g., Teams/SharePoint).
  • Actively utilize generative AI tools to assist with content generation, summarization of complex legal or regulatory texts, drafting initial document outlines, and identifying key information for documentation.
  • Evaluate and implement best practices for integrating generative AI into the technical writing workflow to improve speed and quality.
  • Utilize advanced Microsoft Word features, including styles, table of contents generation, cross-referencing, master documents, and templates, to create professional and easily navigable documents.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve documentation templates to streamline the writing and publishing process.

Skills & Competencies 

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in environmental compliance, waste management, or corporate sustainability reporting.
  • Knowledge of extended producer responsibility trends, laws, regulations and programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to explain complex technical information clearly and concisely for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using generative AI tools (e.g., large language models) for professional applications, particularly in content creation, summarization, and research.
  • Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated content for accuracy, relevance, and adherence to style guidelines.
  • Meticulous approach to formatting and ensuring accuracy in template and style application.
  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet aggressive deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of EPR frameworks and sustainability regulations.
  • Ability to analyze complex regulatory content and synthesize it into actionable information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe InDesign with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word.
  • Familiarity with style guides (e.g., AP Style, Chicago Manual of Style) and the ability to consistently apply them.

 

Compensation & Other Information 

  • Location: Initially Fully 
  • Compensation will be based on a variety of factors in accordance with applicable law.
