Job Purpose

This position is intended to be a critical part of Longroad’s rapidly growing energy storage business and will be in the center of technical activities for Longroad’s energy storage business. The ideal candidate will possess an engineering background and have knowledge of energy storage technical and controls systems.  Specifically, the candidate will have knowledge of and operating experience in energy storage operating systems such as Powin’s Stack OS system or other major integrators. Experience at a battery OEM, inverter OEM, energy storage integrator, renewable developer or EPC/consultant is preferred for this position.  Above all, the candidate must be detail oriented, conscientious and technically proficient.


Responsibilities 

The ideal candidate will be effective at working cross-functionally within Longroad as well as with outside vendors and stakeholders. 

  • As an Energy Storage Controls Engineer, you will contribute to the technical success of Longroad’s ongoing management of existing projects as well as evaluation of vendors for future projects. 
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams, clients, and vendors, you will ensure the effective operation of existing facilities through management of the energy storage control system. This includes:
    • Control system advancement and optimization
    • Ongoing troubleshooting, bug fixes and patch creation
    • Creation and testing of new controls functionality
    • Code base management and version control
    • Management of field testing and update implementation
    • Documentation of existing system architecture and management of documentation updates
  • Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal teams to gather and validate equipment  specifications
  • Develop BOMs and schematics for control systems and networking
  • Participate in the design of network architecture for new energy storage systems 
  • Translate project control requirements into specifications for system configurations
  • Answer technical RFIs and provide detailed, timely responses to project stakeholders

Minimum Requirements

  • Direct experience with energy storage operating systems
  • 7 or more years of experience in the renewable energy industry (solar, wind, energy storage, etc.) or similar industry with demonstrated experience with energy storage systems.
  • Candidates must have strong technical skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, controls engineering, or similar degree
  • Proficient in MS Office software

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in the energy storage, microgrid and/or PV industry in an engineering or operational role at an energy storage manufacturer or within the energy storage supply chain, at an EPC or consultancy specializing in energy storage or with a project developer involved in designing and deploying standalone or paired energy storage systems.
  • Experience in grid forming storage applications
  • Highly knowledgeable in energey storage control applications and architectures
  • Specific experience in energy storage system project design, sizing and/or construction.
