About the Role

We are seeking a freelance Behavioral Science Copywriter to help translate product strategy into persuasive, bias-aware digital messaging. This role involves aligning copy with defined user personas, cognitive biases, and behavioral tactics.

You will work closely with UX, product, and content teams to ensure messaging consistency and clarity across digital touchpoints.


Responsibilities

  • Translate behavioral science principles into actionable messaging strategies tailored to defined user personas
  • Write and adapt copy (including headlines, in-app messaging, onboarding tutorials, CTAs, tooltips) based on user personas
  • Clearly define and explain the behavioral tactics used in messaging to cross-functional teams (e.g. identifying where and when loss aversion is used and how)
  • Collaborate with UX, product, subject-matter experts, and content marketing teams to ensure consistency
  • Interpret different message versions (from in-app or survey testing) to improve engagement and refine behavioral tactics per user persona
  • Incorporate accessibility, readability, localization constraints, and platform specifications into all messaging
  • Support the creation of a reusable playbook or message strategy guide based on project work


You Might Be a Great Fit If You…

  • Have 3+ years of applied copywriting experience, including at least 1.5 years focused on behavioral science or user-needs based copywriting
  • Possess knowledge of behavioral science principles and their application to digital messaging (e.g. COM-B, EAST framework, Fogg Model)
  • Have experience writing copy for digital interfaces or software apps, with an understanding of digital constraints (character counts, space limits)
  • Can write multiple versions of the same message adapted for different user personas
  • Communicate clearly and can explain behavioral tactics and rationale to stakeholders from non-behavioral backgrounds
  • Have experience working in cross-functional teams across global time zones


Nice to Have

  • Experience contributing to or managing a content management system
  • Experience creating or designing a behavioral messaging toolkit
  • Familiarity with A/B testing, copy performance analysis, and messaging optimization
  • Background in behavioral economics, psychology, or human-computer interaction


Terms of Cooperation

  • A small amount of synchronous work/virtual meeting attendance will be required


Expected Deliverables

  • Persona-aligned copy development adapted based on key behavioral tactics
  • Behavioral rationale documentation or presentation for internal use – this may include a lightweight behavioral copy playbook or annotated messaging framework
  • Recommendations or roadmap contributions for scalable copy improvements and testing opportunities
