Position Summary:
Certified teachers will “virtually” manage instructional programs through use of the telephone, internet and various curriculum tools. They will consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure that each child successfully completes his/her instructional program.
The EL Specialist will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:
Create and deliver English language instruction, grade assignments, and conduct parent conferences in a timely manner.
Support the instructional program in all academic areas as needed for English Learners synchronously using web conferencing and asynchronously through modified assignments and accommodations.
Share WIDA Can-Do Descriptors with core and elective teachers specific to their enrolled ELs, and support those teachers with modifying lessons and activities to align to the Descriptors.
Communicate with parents, students, and other teachers on a regular basis to develop collaborative relationships, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, and monitor student’s academic progress and language growth.
Collaborate with other teachers to ensure that English Learners and their families are receiving cultural and linguistic support as needed.
Keep student records and data up-to-date, including cumulative files, online student and family information, and logging all student and parent contacts.
Work with the ELD team to analyze student data from a variety of sources (proficiency assessments, literacy programs, academic areas, etc.) to develop student goals and strategies that support students’ needs.
Participate in the organization and administration of state testing as directed including WIDA Screeners and the administration of the annual WIDA ACCESS exams.
Be acquainted with Pennsylvania’s identification and reclassification procedures and assist with these procedures according to Reach’s policy and as directed by the department lead.
Devise and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a school and classroom community.
Consult with other teachers and staff to develop alternate enrichment activities and modifications to students’ programs including integrating STEM into courses and for students with special needs.
Work with other teachers to coordinate social activities, field trips, and other applicable events while integrating them into the students’ classroom experiences and social language practice.

Education/Qualifications
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in related field
Pennsylvania ESL Program Specialist Certification
Dual certified in English Language Arts preferred
Proficiency in a second language preferred
Possesses all PDE required clearances for school-based personnel
Experience Requirements:
1-3 years of experience is preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Ability to effectively disseminate information, both orally and in writing to all stakeholders
Knowledge of web-based applications and data management systems
Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Proficiency in computer applications, specifically Google environments

Ability to pass the background checks required for all school employees in Pennsylvania
This position could include limited travel and could include limited overnight travel
