Job description

Company Description

At JDP, we are the experts in civils drainage and water management. For over half a century we’ve been combining quality products, knowledgeable staff, dedicated delivery, a national branch network and technical assistance to be the one-stop shop for our customers. We continue to experience remarkable growth and stability and this is thanks to our unwavering commitment to excellent customer service and robust business strategy. Our people are at the heart of our operations and we pride ourselves on being a great company to work for!

Job Description

At JDP we are serious about putting Health & Safety first.  Our colleagues should arrive safe, work safe, go home safe – every time.  We are growing as a business and now need an experienced Health & Safety colleague to join our team.  This is a new role in our structure and it's a real opportunity to influence and shape how we move forward.  We already have a strong H&S culture (supported right from the top) with good processes in place.  Can you help lead us to the next level?

This role can be based at our branch/office in Longtown near Carlisle - with hybrid working available.  If you're not Carlisle based but excited by the role, plus think your skills & experience are a great fit - then do apply regardless of your location - we can consider candidates from across mainland UK.

In this role you will provide safety coaching, advice and support for our operations (branch network) and operational management to promote improved safety outcomes across our business.

You will:

  • Establish strong working relationships with internal stakeholders & be able to influence.
  • Motivate your colleagues and imbed excellent safety behaviours.
  • Lead by example – live & breathe our safety first approach and uphold high standards.
  • Have accountability for risk assessments, accident / incident investigations and the sharing of best practice initiatives.
  • Identify areas of weakness and produce & deliver improvement plans.
  • Remain competent in H&S legislation & best practice to ensure compliance.
  • Train, influence and provide technical expertise to the operational teams.
  • Analyse leading and lagging performance trends to develop appropriate response plans to improve safety compliance and outcomes.
  • Be an active member of the Dyka H&S network, sharing ideas & implementation of key H&S plans.
  • Oversee ISO9001 auditing and Quality Assurance process.

Qualifications

You will be a self-starter with strong communication and engagement skills. You will preferably have a Health & Safety qualification or equivalent experience.  Multi-site experience is desirable but not essential.  You will come to us with practical experience of undertaking accident/incident investigations and root cause analysis, reviewing risk assessments and proactively working towards continuous improvement initiatives. You will have to be thorough with good attention to detail.  It would be advantageous if you are from an operational environment (factory or branches).

Additional Information

We will not consider overseas applications from candidates with no right to live or work in the UK.  Thank you.

This job attracts an annual bonus scheme, company car, generous pension scheme and private health care.
