About This Position
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to our fast growing data center team, to oversee the design, implementation, and management of electrical systems for large-scale, mission-critical data center projects. The ideal candidate will provide direction and guidance to engineering consultants and general contractors throughout the project lifecycle. This position requires deep technical knowledge of data center power infrastructure, demonstrated leadership abilities, and a proven track record in managing the delivery of resilient and efficient electrical solutions in high-availability environments.
Responsibilities and DutiesOversee and guide engineering consultants and general contractors in the design, planning, and implementation of electrical systems, including utility supply, substation, HV/MV/LV power distribution, lighting, backup power (generators, UPS), switchgear, grounding, and control systemsReview and approve detailed electrical engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project scope, schedule, budget, and quality standardsEvaluate load analysis, fault current studies, short circuit calculations, protective device coordination, power quality assessments, and capacity planning done by consultants to ensure they support current and future data center uptime requirementsProvide expert oversight in the selection and specification of electrical equipment including switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, and emergency generatorsReview and approve redundancy strategies (N+1, 2N) to ensure required tier level reliability is achievedOversee the commissioning, factory/site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT), and inspection of electrical systems and equipment to verify performance, reliability, and safety standardsLead the technical review of vendor submissions and guide equipment evaluations and selection decisionsEnsure proper documentation is created and maintained for electrical systems and emergency proceduresVerify compliance with relevant local and international codes, standards, and regulations (NEC, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, local codes)Drive innovation and sustainability initiatives, including energy efficiency optimization (PUE) and adoption of emerging technologiesFacilitate effective coordination between cross-functional teams including architects, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, project managers, contractors, and vendorsManage relationships with electrical consultants and subcontractors throughout design and construction phasesDevelop and implement ongoing maintenance strategies, risk assessments, and mitigation plans for long-term reliabilityProvide expert troubleshooting guidance for critical electrical issues during construction and commissioningEstablish and enforce quality assurance standards, risk mitigation protocols, and safety compliance requirementsEngage with internal and external stakeholders to align engineering solutions with business objectivesQualifications and SkillsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree preferred)Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent strongly preferred8+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 4 years focused on data center or mission-critical facilitiesDemonstrated expertise in overseeing power system design, reliability engineering, and critical infrastructure projectsStrong knowledge of power distribution systems, redundancy configurations (N+1, 2N), and energy efficiency best practicesExperience representing owner's interests in data center electrical infrastructure projectsIn-depth knowledge of industry standards and codes including NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, IEEE, IEC, NETA, ANSI, UL, UFC, UBCFamiliarity with high voltage substation design, MV/LV distribution, backup power systems, and building management systems (BMS/EMS)Working knowledge of electrical design and modeling software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP, SKM PowerTools, ETAP, Microsoft Office)Experience with data center standards including Uptime Institute Tier classifications, TIA-942, and EN 50600Understanding of data center metrics including PUE, DCiE, and related efficiency measures
