Job description

An Assessor is a masters-level, licensed, behavioral health clinician who is part of the QRTP Assessment Unit within the Children’s Review Program. Assessors are responsible for completing comprehensive assessments and providing written recommendations regarding appropriate placement and treatment for children in the custody of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services who are being referred for residential placement or who are placed in a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP). An Assessor is able to skillfully gather and synthesize child-specific information and clearly present findings in a written report. An Assessor works collaboratively with regional Department for Community-Based Services (DCBS) staff to support their focus on children’s safety, well-being, and permanency. This is a work-from-home position. 

Required Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in psychology, Counseling, Social Work or other behavioral health field
  • Two or more years of experience in case conceptualization, assessment, and service         planning/delivery with children, including experience writing comprehensive assessments or reports
  • Independent licensure as a mental health practitioner in KY
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable operating transportation and proof of auto insurance

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience working with children in the out-of-home care system (e.g., residential treatment, foster care, or DCBS) 
  • Strong writing skills

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Capacity for travel a minimum of twice a year for in-person meetings in Lexington, KY as requested. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Assess the needs and strengths of children being referred for QRTP placement.
  • Interview children and family members.
  • Gather information from records, previous treatment providers, and other sources.
  • Score measures such as the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessment.
  • Organize and synthesize information into a written report with recommendations regarding placement and treatment goals.
  • Collaborate with DCBS staff to complete assessments of children.
  • Complete required Medicaid-related documentation.
  • Manage time and tasks efficiently in order to meet required timelines.

The Children’s Review Program is a program of New Vista funded in whole from Federal and Cabinet For Health and Family Services Funds.
