Reports to:  Professional Services Manager

Location: 100% Remote

Who we are:

System Automation (SA) is a software vendor based in Columbia, Maryland, with a focus on providing systems that support government regulatory management operations.

Founded in the District of Columbia in 1968 and originally contracted to develop and support the US Army recruiting system (contract held for 42 years), SA has since become an industry leader in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive information management applications for government regulatory agencies across the country. Our licensure experience began in 1994, providing the Maryland Board of Nursing a licensing solution and has since evolved to support many regulatory needs, including licensing, permitting, enforcement, inspections, investigations, case management, online payments, public verification, robust reporting, online self-service for applicants and license seekers, and paperless regulatory operations.

For nearly three decades, SA has built a solid track record of demonstrable success, delivering SaaS licensure and compliance solutions to government regulatory agencies. SA is currently supporting state government agencies, licensing boards, and other regulatory operations in 22 states for nearly 800 different professions, occupations, and industries.

With SA’s current launch of Evoke, the only cloud-native, low-code application platform purposely designed for regulatory management, infusing SA’s decades of professional licensing expertise, it’s an exciting time for growth!

We will consider qualified candidates to work fully remote (must reside in the U.S. only).

About the Role:

The Solution Architect plays a key role on the Professional Services team, translating complex business requirements into enterprise, cloud-native applications built on SA’s Evoke™ low-code application platform. You will partner with our technical project teams and our customers to capture requirements, design end-to-end architectures, and create the technical blueprint that guides implementation. Once the design is approved, you will own the technical backlog, mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and mitigate technical risks throughout the delivery lifecycle. This role demands deep expertise in SaaS architecture, a passion for low-code development, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Engage with customers and solution consultants to understand business objectives, constraints, and success criteria.
  • Lead and document application architecture and detailed design, including data models, integration patterns, security model, and user experience flows.
  • Produce clear design deliverables (architecture diagrams, ERDs, sequence diagrams, specification documents) that serve as the implementation blueprint.
  • Decompose the design into an actionable backlog of user stories and technical tasks for the development team.
  • Provide technical oversight during implementation: review low-code configurations, JavaScript-based custom widgets, integrations, and data migrations.
  • Conduct code and configuration reviews to ensure quality, performance, and security standards are met.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks early, proposing pragmatic solutions and trade offs.
  • Mentor and coach Solution Developers and Solution Consultants, fostering best practices in low-code and SaaS architectures.
  • Stay current on emerging cloud-native and low-code technologies; champion their adoption where beneficial.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of architecture standards, delivery processes, knowledge bases, and to the Evoke platform itself by partnering with our Product Engineering team.
  • Ensure all production changes are made in accordance with lifecycle methodology, version control, appropriate testing, and risk guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned.
