The Opportunity

We are seeking a Principal Specialist, Clinical Contracts & Reimbursement who for site budget template development/consultation, coverage analysis, budget/contract negotiations & procedure pricing for clinical research sites that participate in Abbott clinical trials.

What You’ll Work On

  • Performs protocol and budget reviews, including Medicare Coverage Analysis, to provide guidance regarding clinical trial reimbursement for Investigational Device Exemption (IDE), Post Approval Study (PAS)/ Post Market Study (PMS), Humanitarian Use Device (HUD) and any other Abbott sponsored trials designated for reimbursement
  • Review & support site negotiations of Clinical trial agreements (CTA), budgets and site-specific informed consent forms for Abbott sponsored clinical trials while ensuring reimbursement and compensation processes adhere to company standards, policies & compliance
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Healthcare Economics, Marketing, Clinical Operations, Regulatory, Legal, Clinical Affairs, Research and senior management to develop and communication recommendations regarding clinical trial reimbursement issues and implications on technology-specific US reimbursement
  • Faces complex problems and must develop the best solution or application from many alternatives.
  • Reviewing protocol to provide consultation/guidance on CPT/DRG codes for budget template development
  • Reviewing site budget response and addressing changes to routine care delineation during budget negotiation process
  • Reviewing site response to contract & ICF for any subject injury language edits
  • Serves as single point of contact for HE&R for escalation on complex negotiations
  • Determines priorities, defines what work should be accomplished, and decides how work should be accomplished. Allowed to change procedures or approaches, as appropriate.
  • Decisions regarding utilizing the right CPT codes for protocol required tests and procedures during budget development and providing recommendations for the best reimbursement strategy for a trial and impact to enrollment
  • This is a new position created within Global Clinical operations to support clinical trial reimbursement activities and interface with HE&R.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in in business administration, sciences, nursing or a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3 years involving coverage policies, procedures and regulations including but not limited to: Clinical and AdvaMed Code of Ethics on Interactions with Health Care Professionals.  
  • Experience with US reimbursement coding, Diagnostic Related Group (DRG) assignments, Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) categorization and process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state and industry rules and regulations governing technical aspects of reimbursement and compliance
  • Ability to understand complex disease states and technical product information
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong project management skills.
  • Must have strong analytical and prioritization skills with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to perform under pressure and in a very dynamic environment
  • Advanced personal computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in international reimbursement a plus.
  • Experience with budget and contract negotiations is a plus.

The base pay for this position is

$97,300.00 – $194,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
