The IT Training Specialist is responsible for developing technical training programs, department- and enterprise-wide communications, and helping others develop skills ensuring they are proficient in using the various technologies and software tools critical to their roles.
The IT Training Specialist will lead the development, delivery, and coordination of end-user technology training and communications for IT applications and systems to foster smooth transitions for employees during current-to-future state transitions and will support the development of business process training.
The Training Specialist will focus on the people impacted by changes to technology, IT systems, technological interfaces, and associated business processes. This IT Training Specialist will partner with project managers to develop and execute integrated training programs and effective change management communication plans. The Training Specialist will also coach team leaders in delivering training within their departments, create and drive strategies for faster and more complete adoption, and identify and manage resistance and risk.
The Specialist will be responsible for training content development in a wide range of modalities, performing learning assessments, and working with a broad range of subject matter experts in the build of materials.
Technical trainers must be extremely knowledgeable in their field of expertise and possess solid technical aptitude. Additionally, the Technical Trainer should be an excellent communicator, able to explain complex subjects in a clear and interesting way.
The goal is to contribute to the development of people's technical/IT skills to meet organizational needs and to ensure open and transparent communication about Technology platforms, initiatives and impact.
Responsibilities
Devise technical training programs according to organizational requirements
Provide department- and enterprise-wide communications
Produce training schedules and classroom agenda
Determine course content according to objectives
Prepare training material (presentations, worksheets etc.)
Execute training sessions, webinars, workshops etc. in groups or individually
Arrange for and conduct on-site or online training when needed
Keep and report data on completed courses, absences, issues etc.
Observe and evaluate results of training programs
Determine overall effectiveness of programs and make improvements
Requirements and skills
Proven experience as technical trainer
Knowledge of modern training techniques and tools in technical subjects
Experience in designing technical course content
Ability to address training needs with complete courses
Working knowledge in MS Office (especially PowerPoint)
Outstanding communication skills and comfortable speaking to crowds
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
Degree in a relevant technical field
Certification such as CTT+ (Certified Technical Trainer) is a strong asset
Qualifications/Education:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience/training in one or more of the following fields: Computer Science, business administration, organization development, communication, or related field .
Five years' experience working in one or more of the following fields: training, organizational change management, strategic communications, information technology, or another related field.
Experience determining training objectives, developing training curricula, and executing training programs for large, complex IT organizations and end users.
Experience in identifying key success metrics and reporting on success; ability to mitigate issues and suggest improvements.
Experience delivering customer-focused service.
Experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices including schedule management, status reporting, and communication of project risks and issues.
Advanced problem-solving skills: ability to uncover root of difficult problems and scope solutions based on knowledge of available resources and timelines as well as awareness of vision and strategy
Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and can communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. Can relay technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Thinks creatively and introduces innovations such as the incorporation of new technologies or processes. Thrives in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
