Job description

Job Overview: As a Senior Payroll Administrator, you will manage end-to-end payroll operations, ensure compliance with Canadian tax laws, and serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries. You will collaborate with HR and Finance to maintain seamless payroll processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process bi-weekly/monthly payroll accurately for employees across Canada (including multi-province setups).
  • Calculate regular pay, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions (CPP, EI, taxes, benefits).
  • Ensure compliance with federal/provincial regulations (CRA, Employment Standards, ROE, T4/T4A).
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies with Finance.
  • Manage year-end processes (T4s, T2200s, tax filings).
  • Administer benefits, RRSPs, and pension contributions (if applicable).
  • Respond to employee payroll inquiries promptly.
  • Maintain payroll records securely and confidentially.
  • Stay updated on Canadian payroll legislation changes.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Education: Diploma/Certificate in Payroll Administration, Accounting, or Finance (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: 7+ years in Canadian payroll processing (PCP certification in progress or completed is a strong asset).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, Payworks, QuickBooks) and Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables).
  • Knowledge:
    • Canadian payroll laws (CRA, EI/CPP, provincial employment standards).
    • Basic accounting principles (GL reconciliations).
  • Soft Skills: High accuracy, confidentiality, and problem-solving abilities.

Nice-to-Haves:
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or CPM (Certified Payroll Manager) designation.
  • Experience with unionized payrolls or multi-province payrolls.
  • Bilingual (English/French).
