What you'd be doing in this role
This role would suit a highly skilled and hands-on Staff ML Engineer who is eager to apply cutting-edge AI to a new domain. You don’t need prior experience in brand management, but you should be excited to dive deep, learn fast, and shape the future of AI-powered brand experiences.

As Canva scales, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
You will get to work on projects that are key to Canva's strategic goals. There are many opportunities to bring new features from chaos to clarity.

At the moment this role is focused on:

  • Owning and evolving our Brand Knowledge, continuously improving its ability to interpret, refine, and enforce brand guidelines​.
  • Developing scalable AI models that balance brand compliance with creative flexibility, enhancing Canva’s AI-powered brand management​.
  • Refining and expanding our Brand Assist Copilot, making brand compliance proactive, interactive, and adaptive to user intent​.
  • Scaling the agent-based AI framework, ensuring seamless integration across real-time brand guidance, audits, and brand analytics​.
  • Leveraging cutting-edge AI (LLMs, multimodal models, retrieval-augmented generation) to push the boundaries of brand intelligence at Canva​.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, and designers to ship AI-driven brand experiences that scale across enterprise customers​.
  • Continuously assess and improve AI-driven performance insights, making brand guidelines data-driven and optimised​.
  • Staying at the forefront of AI advancements, evaluating emerging LLM, multimodal, and AI orchestration techniques to improve Canva’s brand AI capabilities​.
  • Proactively prototype and experiment with new AI approaches that could enhance brand compliance, flexibility, and user experience, pushing innovation in brand AI​.
  • Becoming Canva’s subject matter expert (SME) in Brand AI, shaping the company’s long-term AI vision for brand management and influencing strategic decisions.​

  • You demonstrate proficiency in developing scalable ML architectures, including real-time AI pipelines and knowledge retrieval systems.
  • You possess a growth mindset, excited to apply your ML expertise to a new field, learning rapidly about brand AI, enterprise needs, and the intersection of compliance and creativity.
  • You have a passion for staying at the cutting edge of AI, constantly evaluating new techniques, experimenting with novel approaches, and applying them to real-world challenges.
  • You embrace a product-first mindset, with a strong intuition for how AI can enhance user experience, improve automation, and scale complex systems.
  • You adopt a pragmatic approach to AI development, knowing when to build state-of-the-art models from scratch and when to leverage existing solutions to maximise impact and efficiency.
