Job Description

Title:  Research Manager

Department:  Consumer Business Unit

Reports to:  Director, Consumer BU

Starting Salary Commensurate with Experience: $84,000 - $92,000 / year  

Purpose: The Research Manager at Lingraphica serves as the scientific cornerstone of the organization, ensuring that our products and services are grounded in evidence-based practice. This role bridges clinical innovation with scientific validation, driving our research agenda while enhancing the credibility of our products in the marketplace. The Research Manager will lead efforts to demonstrate efficacy, develop new evidence-based protocols, and position Lingraphica as a leader in evidence-based practice for aphasia and related communication disorders. The ideal candidate has strong project management skills, experience in research methodologies, and the ability to communicate complex findings effectively to diverse audiences. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

Research Strategy & Leadership  

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive research strategy aligned with Lingraphica's mission and product development goals  
  • Establish an evidence hierarchy framework to guide product claims and marketing communications  
  • Identify opportunities for new research areas, technologies, or methodologies that advance aphasia intervention  
  • Create annual research plans with clear objectives, resource requirements, and expected outcomes  
  • Lead a cross-functional research governance committee to prioritize research initiatives  

Research Design & Implementation  

  • Design rigorous clinical studies to evaluate the efficacy of Lingraphica devices combined with evidence-based interventions such as VNeST  
  • Develop research project plans, defining scope, objectives, methodologies, and timelines  
  • Oversee the execution of research initiatives, ensuring they are executed efficiently, adhere to protocols, remain within budget, and meet quality standards  
  • Implement a systematic outcomes tracking program to collect real-world evidence from clients using Lingraphica products  
  • Develop protocols, recruit participants, and oversee user testing for product development and validation  

Data Management & Analysis  

  • Establish data collection standards and procedures to ensure scientific rigor  
  • Manage data collection, analysis, and interpretation to generate meaningful insights that drive innovation and evidence-based improvements  
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of relevant research to inform product development and marketing  
  • Apply appropriate statistical methods to analyze research outcomes and efficacy data  

Knowledge Dissemination & Publication  

  • Lead the development of research reports, white papers, peer-reviewed publications, and conference presentations  
  • Create a publication strategy to enhance Lingraphica's scientific standing and visibility  
  • Present research findings in a clear and impactful way to internal and external audiences, including investors, policymakers, and end-users  
  • Represent Lingraphica's research agenda at conferences, professional meetings, and other scientific events  
  • Develop and present educational webinars for SLPs and consumers that accurately represent the evidence base  

Quality Assurance & Compliance  

  • Review all marketing and educational content before publication to ensure accurate representation of research evidence  
  • Establish an evidence review process for all claims related to product efficacy  
  • Ensure all research activities comply with ethical standards, regulatory guidelines, and best practices in clinical research  
  • Maintain IRB relationships and oversee approval processes for human subjects' research  

Partnership Development  

  • Build and nurture academic partnerships with universities and research institutions to enhance study credibility and reach  
  • Network and develop relationships with external researchers and research teams in the fields of aphasia, AAC, and speech-language pathology  
  • Work closely with internal teams (marketing, sales, product development, technology) to align research with business objectives  
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, advocacy groups, and patient organizations to enhance research impact and relevance  

Professional Development & Mentorship  

  • Mentor Lingraphica staff who are pursuing Doctorates/PhDs, providing guidance and support  
  • Create opportunities for staff to participate in research initiatives and develop research skills  
  • Stay current with emerging research methodologies and trends in aphasia intervention and AAC technology  

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Ability to implement and execute a research study 
  • Knowledge of critical analysis of research studies 
  • Knowledge of AAC practices, needs, and challenges, strongly preferred 
  • Demonstration of knowledge and experience of research regulatory requirements with human subjects 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, oral communication and public speaking skills 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams 
  • Analytical skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making  

Education & Experience 

Formal Education: 

  • Masters in Speech Language Pathology, required  
  • Clinical doctorate, PhD or similar advanced degree in Speech Language Pathology, required 
  • SLP license and CCC, required  

Clinical Experience: 

  • 5 years clinical experience in speech pathology, required 
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of research experience, required 
  • AAC experience, strongly preferred  
  • Tele-practice experience, strongly preferred   
  • Experience presenting at professional conferences, strongly preferred 

Continuing Education  

  • Internal compliance of insurance/reimbursement regulations  
  • CEUs as needed to retain SLP license  
  • Awareness of latest advances in AAC industry including new disease states/diagnoses and treatment options for patients with aphasia, apraxia and dysarthria

Work Environment & Physical Demands  

Incumbent works from home and is expected to maintain a safe, productive work environment with secure internet access. 

Travel  

Travel may be required two times per year for an in-person team meeting and the all-company meeting.
