Role:
- Manage loan portfolio through the bankruptcy process to ensure department timelines are met or preferably exceeded. Responsible for overseeing delinquent loan accounts, collects delinquent loan payments, recovery of charged-off loans and share accounts. Direct and monitor the work performed by Outside Counsel, in compliance with Department timeline requirements. Develop proficiency with work assignments to ensure maximum efficiency and accuracy of work performed. Ability to multitask and manage time effectively to increase and or maintain productivity will be critical to proficient job performance.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Manage Bankruptcy portfolio, handle member calls efficiently and effectively, while resolving the member inquiries. Understand payment postings and be able to read and understand payment histories. Ensure timely filing of claims and represent the credit union in bankruptcy cases.
- Contact charged off loans and negative share accounts by phone and mail. Analyze members’ financial situations, provides counseling, negotiates arrangements, and works with members to pay off their charged off loan accounts. Utilize collection tools and techniques to recover delinquent loans efficiently. Perform legal referrals, prepare demand letters and make recommendations to management, when appropriate, for legal action against the member.
- Maintain accurate records, files, and reports on all collection activity in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Manage deadlines by prioritizing and handling multiple projects with competing time constraints.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with Outside Counsel, Trustees, and Bankruptcy Courts. Maintain working knowledge of investor requirements and ensure that those requirements are met. Represent the credit union in recovery and bankruptcy proceedings.
- Informs management of trends in loan underwriting that contribute to delinquent/charged-off loans.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory programs including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, Office of Foreign Asset Control Program and Customer Identification Program. Assists other department personnel and performs other duties as needed. Remote employees must adhere to their agreed-upon work schedule from a secure location, participating in virtual meetings, video conferences/other communications, and maintaining regular, responsive communication during working hours.
Performance Measurements:
- Maintain the Credit Union's charged-off and delinquent accounts at or below established goals.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of all collection and recovery activity.
- Ensure that all collection activity is within Credit Union procedure, while conforming to State and Federal regulations.
- Identify potential underwriting problems and inform management of same.
- Make contact and ensure that guarantors and co-borrowers on delinquent accounts are promptly and continuously notified of the status of any delinquent account they have endorsed.
- Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours; including coverage on weekends and coverage due to the demands of Paid Time Off, sickness, training periods, or equipment problems.
- Completes required BSA/AML training with a passing grade of 80% or higher. Completes required Customer Identification and Red Flags Program requirements to include documentation of discrepancy resolution as needed.
