Job Description

A Principal Auditor for Responsible Sourcing/Ethical Trade/Social Compliance works with audit teams to plan, prioritize, and perform audit activities and preparation of reports to ensure technical excellence. They are experienced Lead Auditors with an in-depth knowledge of the issues on the markets in which they operate, and typically master different schemes. They are in contact with the Program Manager for these schemes and support the local implementation and improvement.
The ideal candidate for this position must have the ability to work under own initiative and in planning and prioritising workloads. experience of project management (desirable), leadership and team commitment, good communication skills (training), experience in managing/performing an activity related to the concerned product or similar. Educated to degree-level, successfully completed recognised auditor training (APSCA), recognised approval as second-party auditor, or training to achieve such sign-off. Minimum two years’ experience of supply chain activities, experience of team management/leadership (desirable), excellent communication skills, coupled with Advanced level of English and Afrikaans.

Primary Job Responsibilities but not limited to:
1. Perform all duties in accordance with the SGS Statement of Integrity.

2. Act as sole or lead auditor on selected schemes.

3. Ensure effective delivery of audits in line with Responsible Business Services Global Procedures and any Scheme requirements or client SOPs.

4. Meet agreed turnaround times for reporting and other deliverables.

5. Present a professional image in all dealings with clients and auditees.

6. Promote the SGS approach and services at seminars and through presentations and articles.

7. Provide technical input to back office and sales teams as required.

8. Technical review of reports from other auditors.

9. Active development of relationships through existing networks and contacts. Remain up to date with current thinking and client expectations in this field; establish and maintain a network of stakeholders including NGOs, industry bodies and related contacts; attend public and client-led conferences; read news related to their topic of interest.

10. Ensure full compliance with the Company’s Code of Integrity & Professional Conduct and Impartiality Policy and encourage others do so.

11. Cooperate fully with any investigations in relation to Quality issues or Integrity where required.

12. At all times, adopt a safe behaviour by exercising due regard for their own health and safety and that of colleagues and clients, in line with the Company’s policies and procedures.

13. Witness other auditors for effectiveness of auditing to ensure that competence is maintained.

14. Lead and organize audit team before, during and after the audit for the related job.

15. Mentor auditors and provide “on-the-job” training. Specific tasks as Principal Auditor:

16. Coordinate with Program Managers the implementation of the programs in their countries and share with the Country Manager and Technical Lead in the country (where available).

17. Work with Technical Lead in country (where available) or Manager to prepare topics for Auditor technical meetings.

18. Identify quality, integrity, and efficiency improvement areas.

19. Assist in development and revision of audit policies and procedures.

20. Resolve and escalate complex issues to appropriate teams for analysis

21. Contribute to Technical documents.

Qualifications

- Must be registered with APSCA and in the process of completing the 3 APSCA exams. Proof must be furnished.
- Social Auditor Training.
- Local and international travel will be required.
- Valid passport is necessary.
- Knowledge of and experience in labour laws, occupational health and safety and environmental management standards.
- Own transport and a current driver’s license.
