Job Title: Program Director for the Master’s in Information Systems Security (MSISS) and Master’s in Information Technology (MSIT)

The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) named the University of the Cumberlands (UC) a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD). The School of Computer and Information Sciences at UC is dedicated to providing students with robust technical skills and foundational knowledge in information technology and cybersecurity. The program integrates academic excellence with hands-on experience, preparing students to meet the evolving demands of the IT and cybersecurity industries. The School also promotes intellectual inquiry and applied research, offering students opportunities to work with advanced technologies in real-world contexts.

We actively seek faculty members with demonstrated expertise in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, and familiarity with the standards and objectives of the National Centers of Academic Excellence (NCAE) programs. Ideal candidates will bring significant industry or academic experience and a commitment to delivering practical, high-impact instruction in an engaging learning environment. This position also supports the broader mission of the University in offering high-quality academic programs rooted in Christian values to students from all backgrounds

Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Computer and Information Sciences, the Program Director will be responsible for academic oversight, curriculum innovation, faculty leadership, program assessment, and the overall success of students enrolled in the MSISS and MSIT programs. The Program Director will also work closely with other Program Directors within the School of CIS to ensure alignment, integration, and innovation across disciplines.

Responsibilities as Program Director will include: 

  • Designing and assessing curriculum aligned with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and NCAE requirements in Cybersecurity.
  • Leading and managing program faculty and staff, including hiring, development, evaluation, and performance management.
  • Providing general support mentorship to ensure effective teaching and a positive faculty/student experience.
  • Overseeing course and program quality, including integration of current IT and Cybersecurity practices.
  • Assisting with annual budgeting to support program needs and strategic priorities.
  • Supporting student recruitment efforts focused on IT and Cybersecurity.
  • Communicating regularly with faculty on course delivery, scheduling, and student issues.
  • Collaborating with university stakeholders (advisory board committee members) to advance program initiatives.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Dean and VP of Academic Affairs.

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Computer Science, or closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Familiarity with University of the Cumberlands Graduate and Executive Programs
  • Experience with the Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) Designation Process
  • Proven experience in teaching, preferably in both in-class and online modes of educational delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing in a creative and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work comfortably with and manage virtual teams.
  • Additional certifications are highly desirable.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Must be able to relate to and communicate with diverse students, faculty, staff, and external communities.
  • Proficiency in English, written and spoken is required.
  • US citizenship or permanent resident card holder status.
