Job description

This is a remote position.

As a Lead OpenTelemetry Developer, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining OpenTelemetry-based solutions that support observability and monitoring at scale. You will focus on instrumentation, data collection, and dashboard creation while ensuring seamless integration with various observability platforms. This position involves close collaboration with engineering teams to promote best practices, semantic conventions, and operational excellence through telemetry. You will also lead efforts to write technical documentation and mentor team members. Strong technical skills in languages such as Python, Java, Go, .NET, and PowerShell, as well as experience with tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, and CloudWatch, are essential. Your knowledge in Java bytecode manipulation, JVM internals, and production management will be critical to developing resilient and compliant systems. Familiarity with security frameworks (SSO, LDAP, Kerberos), automation, and CI/CD is highly valued. The role also emphasizes risk awareness in financial environments and the ability to drive continuous improvements in reliability and monitoring strategies.

Key Responsibilities
Develop OpenTelemetry-based solutions integrated with various observability platforms
Create and maintain documentation supporting instrumentation and observability practices
Design and build dashboards to enhance visibility into application performance
Provide expert guidance and best practices for OpenTelemetry implementation and semantic conventions
Coach and mentor engineering teams on observability tools and methodologies
Develop robust and scalable monitoring frameworks and alerting mechanisms
Automate telemetry collection and deployment processes to enhance operational efficiency
Ensure high reliability, availability, and stability of systems through proactive monitoring
Address operational risks in observability by developing compliant monitoring solutions
Continuously improve system observability with innovative monitoring practices



Requirements

Minimum 5+ years of experience in observability engineering with deep knowledge of OpenTelemetry instrumentation and standards, Expertise in programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, PowerShell, and .NET, Experience in developing dashboards and integrating with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Splunk, CloudWatch, and Azure Monitor, Advanced understanding of Java instrumentation including JVM internals and bytecode manipulation, Demonstrated leadership in technical documentation, mentorship, and best practices implementation, Experience in identity and access security (SSO, LDAP, Kerberos, AD), Knowledge of production management, automation, and resilient system design, Risk-aware mindset particularly in financial services context, Passion for observability, proactive monitoring, and system improvement
