About the role

We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Engineering Manager to lead our talented and diverse engineering teams. In this critical role, you will be responsible for guiding the development, delivery, and iteration of the Made platform. You will foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and collaboration, mentoring our engineers to reach their full potential. Working closely with Product, Design, and our Architect, you will be instrumental in bringing our vision for our AI creator platform to life and ensuring our engineering practices enable us to scale effectively.

Key Responsibilities

● Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, manage, coach, and mentor a diverse team of engineers, including AI/ML specialists, Backend, Frontend, Mobile, and DevOps engineers. Foster their professional growth and build a strong, cohesive team.

● Execution & Delivery: Drive the successful execution of the product roadmap, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of features for the Made platform. Implement and refine agile development processes to optimize team velocity and predictability.

● Collaboration & Strategy: Partner closely with the Product Manager, Product Designer, and Architect to translate product vision and architectural strategy into actionable engineering plans and deliverables.

● Technical Excellence: Provide technical guidance and oversight, ensuring adherence to architectural principles, engineering best practices, and high standards for code quality and system reliability.

● Innovation & Productivity: Champion and facilitate the adoption of modern development practices, including leveraging AI tools (e.g., AI coding assistants, automated testing solutions) to enhance developer productivity, code quality, and overall engineering capabilities.

● Culture Building: Cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance engineering culture that values innovation, continuous learning, psychological safety, and a strong sense of ownership.

● AI Integration & Platform Health: Oversee the successful integration of sophisticated AI agents (like Milo, Remi, Zara) and features into the Made platform, ensuring seamless user experiences. Work with the Architect to ensure the platform's scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

● Talent Acquisition & Development: Play a key role in recruiting, onboarding, and developing top engineering talent to grow our team's capabilities.

Key Requirements

● Proven experience (e.g., 5+ years) in an engineering leadership role (Engineering Manager, or Technical Lead with significant management responsibilities).

● Demonstrated success in managing and delivering complex software projects, ideally in a product-centric, agile environment.

● Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle, modern engineering practices, and CI/CD principles.

● Experience managing diverse engineering teams, ideally including those focused on backend systems, frontend applications, and AI/ML development.

● Excellent leadership, communication, active listening, mentorship, and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to inspire and motivate teams.

● Solid technical background with the ability to contribute to technical discussions and guide decisions when necessary.

● Experience working collaboratively with product management, design, and other key stakeholders.

● Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and experience working on AI-driven products or managing teams that build AI solutions is highly desirable.

● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
