Stepful graduates, primarily from underrepresented communities, go on to work at leading healthcare institutions. Stepful is backed by Y Combinator, Reach Capital and AlleyCorp and recently closed a round led by Oak HC/FT.

Position Overview
We’re looking for a proactive, people-first People Operations & Workplace Experience Manager to ensure our day-to-day employee experience is seamless—from onboarding and office culture to HR systems and compliance. This role is equal parts People Ops generalist and office experience lead. You’ll be the go-to partner for employees navigating HR processes, supporting key compliance workflows (like I-9s), and managing the operations of our NYC office. You’ll also play a key role in bringing our employee experience to life—supporting onboarding, engagement, and internal events.

This is a highly collaborative role, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and enjoys building structure while staying nimble.

Key Responsibilities

People Operations & Employee Support

  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions, escalating to People leadership as needed

  • Manage HR systems (Rippling) and maintain clean, accurate employee data

  • Own compliance workflows including I-9 verification, contractor documentation, and personnel file management

  • Support employee relations logistics including documentation, scheduling, and recordkeeping

  • Partner with People leadership on initiatives related to policy, benefits, and employee experience

Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Coordinate onboarding logistics including workspace setup, orientation sessions, and Day 1 checklists

  • Manage the offboarding experience, collecting equipment, closing accounts, and supporting exit interviews

Office & Workplace Experience

  • Oversee the daily operations of our NYC office to ensure a welcoming, productive environment

  • Liaise with building management and vendors to handle office maintenance, cleaning, and supplies

  • Lead planning and execution of in-office events, team celebrations, and seasonal programs

  • Act as the culture champion in the office—gathering feedback and proactively identifying ways to improve the day-to-day employee experience

IT & Systems Coordination

  • Partner with our external IT vendor to manage employee equipment, troubleshoot basic tech issues, and coordinate onboarding/offboarding device logistics

  • Maintain inventory of devices and licenses, flagging when replacements or renewals are needed

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in a People Operations, HR Generalist, or Office/Workplace Operations role, ideally in a fast-paced or startup environment

  • Strong working knowledge of HR systems and compliance processes (e.g., HRIS, I-9s, onboarding workflows)

  • Clear, empathetic communicator with a strong service mindset and bias toward action

  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities while staying proactive

  • Comfortable supporting employees both in-person and remotely; ability to troubleshoot and coordinate cross-functionally

  • Passion for creating inclusive, engaging work environments

At Stepful, we're an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
