Description

Position: Short Term Farm Coordinator 

Reports to:    Assistant Vice President of Programs
Department:    Food & Climate Justice
Timeframe    June 10 - August 11, 2025 (subject to change)
Pay Rate:    $25-30 hourly depending on experience
 

The Farm Coordinator implements vegetable growing operations at two educational garden sites in Marin County. This includes site maintenance, harvest, planting and general upkeep of the current gardens. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Programs and works to ensure that the gardens stay kempt and operational
 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports operations at two school gardens, including a hoop house, small hydroponic operation, fruit tree orchard and garden beds
  • Plants, sows seeds, harvests and weeds
  • Maintains planting, production, and harvest records
  • Communicates yield and harvest date estimates to Kitchen Manager  
  • Implements farm maintenance and completes needed repairs in coordination with the Facilities Manager
  • Monitors and maintains proper irrigation systems and hand-waters as needed, monitoring hydroponic tables
  • Delivers farm harvest to central kitchen in San Rafael
  • Under the supervision of the Assistance Vice President of Programs, purchases necessary supplies and equipment
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to organic, sustainable farming standards
  • Committed to creating a healthy, thriving community
  • 1-2 years’ organic farming experience, including farm management and familiarity with hoop house and greenhouse work
  • Proficiency in data entry and computer skills to track farm yields and communicate with colleagues and partners
  • Ability to lift 25+ pounds regularly up to 4 hours per day
  • Ability to do physical labor up to 4 hours daily outdoors
  • Willingness to work in-person at multiple Marin County sites (no remote option)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bend: flexion of the upper trunk forward while standing and knees extended, or knees flexed when sitting
  • Lift: exertion of physical strength to move objects 10-50 lbs from one level to another
  • Carry: hold or rest weighted objects 10-50 lbs directly on hands, arms, shoulders or back while moving from one location to another
  • Climb: ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress, using both hands and feet
  • Push: exertion of force on or against an object 10-50 lbs to move it from one location to another.
  • Feel: perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin
  • Manual dexterity: required for computer work
