About the team and the role: 

An eBay subsidiary, TCGplayer is on a quest to be the most trusted trading card game (TCG) platform — connecting and empowering the hobby community.  Trading card games are a $25B global market that creates community connection through in-person games (Pokemon; Magic: The Gathering; YiGiOh; etc.).  Founded by and for TCG enthusiasts, we operate a global marketplace, and create tools, technologies and solutions that help small businesses simply and profitably sell TCGs at scale.

We identify, assess, and help drive strategic initiatives that propel the company towards achieving its long-term goals, while navigating the complexities of an ever-evolving business landscape. What you will accomplish:

• Develop, maintain, and socialize a comprehensive strategy and plan including high level financial modeling to focus resources, meet customer needs and deliver results for TCGplayer

• Lead the strategic decision-making processes and provide recommendations based on in-depth analysis and forecasting - this is focused on building sustainable differentiation clearly aligned with meeting our customers’ top needs and is as much about deciding what not to do as it is about deciding what to do.

• Lead, mentor and develop team members to not just build a high-performing SBI team, but to help them on their journey to develop their full-potential for the rest of their careers 

• Lead the following teams: 

  • Strategy: drive the development of challenging, complex but achievable strategic initiatives and, when necessary, adjust to respond to changing market conditions and business priorities; includes supporting stakeholder management internally and at eBay (across and up)

  • Data: spearhead efforts to utilize TCGplayer’s rich set of data to add value throughout the value chain, especially with publishers, as we continue on our quest to connect and empower the hobby community; this includes migrating from reactive data pulls to proactive self-help structure

  • PMO: continue to strengthen the governance process by which we track projects and identify and resolve issues early and quickly; includes specific support for compliance, security and vendor management 

  • Employee engagement: in support of delivering our strategy, lead the team responsible for change management, internal communications of our strategy and growth of our culture 

• Partner with eBay on broader strategic discussions involving Collectibles strategy, coordination between businesses and understanding of TCGplayer’s strategy and progress against that strategy.

What you will bring: 

• Strong bias to building sustainable outcomes. 

• 12+ years of industry experience, inclusive of at least 3 years in management consulting, 5 years in developing and implementing strategic initiatives, and 5 years of people leadership or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams

• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, financial and storytelling abilities.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.

• Strong ability to execute with results and willingness to get involved and stay hands-on when necessary

• Proven experience working across teams to encourage constructive debate, build consensus and then focus and drive to execution.

• Bachelor’s Degree required. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is preferred. Combination of education and experience will be considered.

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
