Program Overview
About The Role
The Peraton Leveraged Mainframe team is seeking a Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer to assist with all major work tasks such as installs, upgrades, maintenances to zOS/CICS/DB2/MQ SERIES/Network Software and associated sub products that support the z/OS mainframe environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Build/delete zOS/CICS/DB2/MQ SERIES regions.
Install/uninstall zOS/CICS/DB2/MQ SERIES and associated sub-products.
Perform software upgrades and maintenance refreshes to zOS/CICS/DB2/MQ SERIES and associated sub-products.
Administration of zOS/CICS/DB2/MQ SERIES and associated sub-products through the configuration/GEN process.
Perform software upgrades and maintenance refreshes to the z/OS Network Software components and associated sub-products.
Familiar with multiple z/OS products and venders (IBM, Broadcom/CA, BMC and 3rd party software)
Supply 24x7 365 on-call support/service restoration/root cause analysis/problem resolution.
Support new client business transitions/migrations and disengagements.
Perform change management functions: ticketing, opening and closing changes, etc.
Perform gen and configuration work such as table entry changes and maintaining JCL/PROCs.
Participation in daytime and off shift problem resolution issues to include Sev 1 through Sev 4 incidents.
Assist with Data Security audits and activities
Assist/Lead DR activities
Mentoring of lower job code team members.
Helps create technology roadmap for zOS/CICS/DB2/MQ SERIES and Network Software components, working with Engineering and software vendors.
Develops strategy for accomplishing success with projects and major workload types.
Can lead all z/OS projects including the most complex and integrated.
Technical contributions and project lead responsibilities with client business transitions/migrations and disengagements.
Performance & tuning both proactively and as part of corrective action activities.
Troubleshoots major system issues and escalation to vendors for service restoration and problem resolution for SEV1 and SEV2 issues.
Can perform technical lead and team leader responsibilities.
Create new tools and processes to increase the productivity and efficiency of the team.
Develops documentation, standard way of accomplishing work, and automation to help the team support the workload.
Works closely with accounts and clients when technical consulting is required from the team.
Excel within a leveraged support model thereby supporting many customers remotely from a single team.
Manage ticket queues (incident, change and problem) within multiple tools (JIRA, ServiceNow, Remedy etc.)
Qualifications
Basic Qualification:
5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD; 9 years with HS Diploma
Has experience working within support of mainframe environments.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
z/OS Fundamentals: A deep understanding of z/OS operating system concepts, including its architecture, components, and functionalities.
Assembler Language: Proficiency in Assembler language for writing and maintaining system-level code.
SMP/E: Expertise in using System Modification Program/Extended Edition (SMP/E) for installing, maintaining, and customizing z/OS software and optional features.
Job Control Language (JCL): Familiarity with JCL for writing and managing batch jobs.
REXX knowledge of REXX (a scripting language) for automating tasks and developing utilities.
Database Management: Understanding of z/OS-related database systems like DB2.
Security: Knowledge of z/OS security features and mechanisms.
Performance Tuning: Ability to identify and address performance bottlenecks in z/OS environments.
Troubleshooting: Strong problem-solving and debugging skills to diagnose and resolve z/OS-related issues.
Unix experience
z/OS Network Software experience working and troubleshooting networks connections to the mainframe. In addition, supporting TCPIP, OSA, VTAM and other network software products.
In-depth experience with IBM Z-processors and Hardware Management Consoles (HMC) and be able to make changes and updates to the CPU configurations. In addition, be able to troubleshoot hardware issues from the HMC.

Details
Target Salary Range: $86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
