Harambeans Strategy Fellowship Role Description
Purpose of the role
Working directly with the Founder and Chair and as part of the core Dream Team, Harambeans is seeking strategy fellows to review, enhance and execute on the key strategic pillars of the Alliance. Drawing from the insights of the Harvard Business School Case Study on our Alliance, the aim of the Strategy Fellowship is to accelerate the growth of our entrepreneurial ecosystem through a meticulous analysis of our stakeholders, business model and researched-based proposals of the strategic pillars towards more sustainable and scalable impact. It is an opportunity to work with an exemplary core team as well as multiple African start-ups in different growth stages. Through the close interaction with the Executive Chair, select Trustees, Advisors and engagements (virtual, hybrid and in-person), you will have exposure and access to a global network of seasoned entrepreneurs, investors and thought leaders working together to build the future of Africa.
The strategy fellowship program is unpaid.

The ideal candidate
You excel at empowering everyone around you as you’ll be working directly with cross-functional team members both in-person and virtually across geographies. You will be supporting the successful iterations of the key Alliance strategies and activities including research and reporting. Time and again you will be asked to experience the hands-on activities of the Alliance that usually take the form of key event ideation, coordination and execution.
Areas of involvement
Harambeans Business model review & Executive Chair support
Review the Harvard Business School Case Study and propose scenarios to consider in planning ahead for the Alliance
Form part of the Founder and Chair’s sounding board ecosystem, offering timely and informed insight across multiple subject matter areas aligned to the vision and mission of the Alliance and the broader ecosystem
Support the Founder and Chair in preparing for engagements, virtually or in person. This may include reviewing agenda, preparing slides and talking points
Speak confidently in settings ranging from large group events to meetings with a broad audience of stakeholders in the ecosystem.
Stakeholder Analysis and Engagement Strategies
Conduct extensive research and analysis on current entrepreneurial ecosystem which includes innovators, investors, high networth families amongst others
Develop/ update stakeholder engagement strategies
Run a benchmark assessment of similar institutions and make recommendations most relevant to the Alliance
Monitor the pulse of the Alliance through tracking industry news and trends and provide insight summaries for the Chair and broader Dream team
Consolidate insights on Harambean ventures by tracking funding updates, investor activity, and venture growth updates.
Venture & Fellow Program Strategy
Provide an analysis of the current impact of the Venture and Fellow programme
Develop a report on the key observations and key recommendations to consider in looking ahead
Analyse the profiles of potential Harambean fellows and offer insights on the avenues bolster the selection process
Research topical material/ themes for the knowledge transfer sessions and prepare briefing documents for panelists
Participate in fellowship update calls
Analyze, and propose enhancements to the fellowship database
Determine areas of need of the Harambeans and create avenues to address them through the programs
Review the reach of venture resources and perks made available to Harambeans on the Harambeans Members Lounge and other platforms
Engage with the Harambeans-in Residence and Experts-in-Residence to establish value in support and recommend ways to better incorporate their expertise in the ecosystem.
Harambeans key events - Harambe Bretton Woods Symposium (HBWS), Global Summit and the Vatican Forum
Perform event outreach to current partners, potential sponsors, and Harambeans
Provide virtual and on-the-ground support with event logistics
Support with event programming, help curate session topics and facilitate some of the sessions.
Qualifications
Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to be flexible and deal with a certain amount of unpredictability
The ability and willingness to go above and beyond to help support the Alliance goals
Creative thinker that is able to synthesize and draw conclusions from complex data sets
A team-player attitude with a strong sense of personal accountability
Has a passion and/or a desire to learn about the evolving African entrepreneurial ecosystem
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Education - applicants must meet one of the following requirements
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
Be enrolled in a college/university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent)
Be a recent graduate of college/university
