Position Snapshot:

Atwell is looking for an Electrical Designer with energy experience. Current projects include oil & natural gas, CO2, hydrogen, and RNG pipelines and facilities. 

As a Designer at Atwell, you will be responsible for overseeing and executing design efforts with a clear understanding of the project scope, schedule, key deliverables, milestones, and budgeted hours. You’ll ensure all work aligns with Atwell’s quality standards, industry codes, and client expectations while guiding the design process from concept to completion. This role involves generating 3D equipment modeling and electrical systems, creating detailed drawings, and collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team to meet technical requirements. 

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret complex sketches, redlines, specification outlines, and logic diagrams to prepare designs for systems, structures, equipment, plant components, or assemblies
  • Create design drawings from general flow diagrams, including piping isometric drawings for construction-related activities, using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software
  • Ensure all designs adhere to applicable codes, standards, project-specific requirements, and established procedures
  • Develop design drawings for drainage, grading plans, and structural elements based on site proposals, surveys, and base maps using CAD software
  • Produce detailed design drawings from general schematic and equipment drawings utilizing CAD tools
  • Execute required tasks such as 3D modeling, redline revisions, electrical design calculations, schematic drawing development, cable tray layouts, AutoCAD block programming, dimensioned and multilayer drawing creation, one-lines, area classification diagrams, schematics, grounding, heat trace, circuit schedules, electrical details, bill of materials (BOM) creation, and lighting design and calculations
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ensure compliance with relevant design codes and regulatory standards

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of drafting experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Advanced proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, including AutoCAD, AutoCAD Map 3D, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and CADWorx
  • Experience in equipment and material selection, control philosophy development, and preparation of supporting calculations and technical specifications
  • Background in electrical system design, including medium- and low-voltage distribution systems (e.g., transformers, generators, motors), communication systems, equipment selection, and performance of analytical calculations
