Job description

Opala is seeking an experienced Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) with a deep understanding of software testing methodologies. In this remote position, you will be part of an Agile engineering team, ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of our software products through the design, development, and execution of comprehensive test strategies and frameworks.If you want to directly impact transforming healthcare through data and technology and have a passion for this space, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with software developers, architects, and product owners to understand software requirements, design specifications, and technical constraints.
  • Design and architect scalable and maintainable automated test frameworks for API testing.
  • Create scalable, maintainable, and efficient automated test frameworks using industry-leading tools and technologies.
  • Define test scenarios and test cases to ensure the quality of the teams deliverables.
  • Perform root cause analysis to identify underlying issues and propose appropriate corrective actions.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance the overall testing and software development lifecycle.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and projects, from inception to completion. Proactively manage and prioritize your workload to meet project deadlines. Demonstrate self-motivation and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Competencies:
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years SDET or equivalent experience
  • 3 + years of development experience using Python, Java, Javascript and/or Go. 
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Extensive experience in API testing and automation.
  • Proficiency in test automation frameworks such as Mocha, pytest, cypress and playwright.
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining automated test scripts using industry-standard test automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Appium etc.).
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), agile methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong focus on quality and a meticulous approach to testing.
  • Ability to identify edge cases and corner scenarios for comprehensive test coverage.
  • Deep understanding of TDD principles.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision, while also being a collaborative team player.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Competencies:
  • Experience with performance testing using JMeter or LoadRunner.
  • Previous experience as a software developer or software engineer.
  • Solid understanding of OAuth specifications, token-based authentication, and access control.
  • PST time zone work hours.
Benefits:
  • The Seattle base salary range for this full-time position is $163k-$192k. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.  
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, EAP, short-term and long-term disability, 16 days PTO, 8 paid holidays, fully paid holiday closure, parental and family medical leave, 401k, stock options and annual bonuses and salary increases based on merit.
