ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized candidate for a Sr. Manager, Storage Engineering position. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound industry knowledge, superior communications, and detail-oriented organizational skills. This role reports to the Head of Storage Engineering. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

In this role, you will serve as the lead technical interface to key vendors, tasked to: 

  • Technical stakeholder with key battery, inverter, enclosure/building suppliers to estimate component cost and performance for battery energy storage systems for inclusion in PV+S projects
  • Collaborate with battery suppliers, BESS EPC Contractors and BESS integrator partners to build investor confidence in new technology or suppliers and push down the Levelized Cost of Storage
  • Help prepare and review Supplier, EPC or Full Turnkey BESS RFPs and technical requirements
  • Work with internal team for early and late stages permitting support through site development process for BESS
  • Write clear and strong contracts for the BESS supplier to deliver on our PPA obligations
  • Review Integrator technical and EPC Contractor deliverables to ensure technical needs and correct designs are met
  • Work with EPC Contractors to optimize engineering, procurement and construction strategy, pricing, schedule, design, and value engineering among other tasks for PV+S projects  
  • Collaborate with EPC Contractors to deploy systems with high reliability, safety, and performance
  • Lead value engineering and collaborate with Avantus solar PV and HV design specialists to co-optimize design of the entire facility BESS, solar PV, and HV components of the project
  • Work with internal stakeholders in developing schedule, SCADA and controls, and commissioning requirements during procurement stage
  • Work with project engineering team to support engineering and technical matters in dealing with project external engineering groups such as engineering of records, owners engineering and independent engineering
  • Other related tasks as assigned 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experienced in utility-scale BESS technical contracting from buyer or seller perspective
  • Experienced in utility-scale BESS integration, equipment selection, and design
  • In-depth knowledge of permitting particularly in NFPA 855 and UL certification processes  
  • Experienced in BESS subsystem performance (batteries, inverters, thermal management, etc.)
  • Experienced PV+S plant engineering design and reviews  
  • 5+ years of experience in utility energy systems including PV and/or storage projects  
  • Background in utility operations including dispatch of generators and BESS controls is a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  
  • Excellent collaboration and team working ability  
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including to Asia 
  • Bachelor of Science in STEM, preferably in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Preferably Masters or Ph.D. degree in STEM or PE in power system engineering

The base salary range for this full-time position is listed below (plus bonus and benefits). Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in California. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus and benefits.
