Overview:

What you would do in this job:
Serve as a customer care representative for the Group Underwriting department.
Work over the phone with individuals who have applied for life or disability insurance through the Group and Financial Services divisions.
Support the underwriting process by gathering information over the phone and follow-up on information needed to complete the underwriting process.
Make outgoing calls to applicants to gather medical information via personal history interviews. Ask questions of the applicant and inquire about specific conditions to collect information needed by the Underwriter to make a decision.
Answer incoming calls from applicants with questions regarding their application. Respond to detailed questions about our handling and the reasoning behind our decision.
Follow-up on additional information needed and outstanding requirements in order to move the process along quickly for the applicant.
Contact external vendors, including our exam provider and medical records service, to expedite their handling of our service requests for the applicant.
Serve as the key point of telephone contact for Group Underwriting applicants.

Ability to "think on your feet" when dealing with customers over the phone.
Good listening and judgment skills to assess the need for additional reflex questions based on applicant's immediate response to your first questions.
Ability to work well with significant volume fluctuations and aggressive service standards.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team atmosphere.
 
Preferred skills for this job:
Knowledge of Group and Financial Service underwritten products.
Understanding of medical terms as they relate to mortality and morbidity risk assessment.
