What you will be doing in the role of a Development Director, Social Events
The role of the Development Director, Social Events is to build and execute a best in class fundraising gala in the New York market. This position will be responsible for all revenue generating activities associated with a fundraising gala included but not limited to: prospecting, stewarding and activating an Event Chair, an executive leadership committee and a associate executive leadership committee, soliciting sponsorship, table sales and auction item solicitation, as well as building a community of supporters through various wrap around events. The revenue goal for this event is $1M with growth plans to exceed $2M over the next three years.
What you will bring to the table
- Develop year-round fundraising plan and budget to meet revenue goals.
- Maintain an ongoing pipeline of potential sponsors and donors.
- Create pipeline and utilize moves management to cultivate, solicit and close major gifts, corporate partnerships and foundation gifts in collaboration with Individual Giving and Corporate Partner teams.
- Recruit, manage and engage event chair and fundraising leadership committees in partnership with the market Executive Director to drive new business and partnerships.
- Oversee multiple smaller events used to build an audience and drive revenue.
- Create personalized, high-level proposals for a variety of donor types and build solicitation teams.
- Develop plan for the social event revenue levers including sponsorship, table sales, auction, paddle raise and pre and post event engagement.
- Manage with the assistance of the Event Experience team all event details and logistics.
- Prepare briefings and revenue analysis for leadership team to relay progress to ELT and/or national board of directors.
- Work with the Development Programs Strategy team to help inform the overall Social Event Program Series strategy, the development of centralized resources and the performance measurement of the event as it contributes to the overall series.
- Work with the Revenue Strategy team to ensure that best practices are being followed and evaluated for maximum fundraising success.
- Travel throughout specific markets, territories or assigned area(s), and work in collaboration with market Executive Director and Vice President on identifying and cultivating potential major gift prospects in the community.
- Support Executive Director and other events in market as needed, collaborating with other staff to build a comprehensive pipeline of market support.
- Provide leadership in building confidence and a strong working relationship between the community and Susan G. Komen as an organization.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the Susan G. Komen mission and programs to promote the field and campaign fundraising initiatives.
- Maintain a productive and collaborative relationships with all Komen staff; participate on regional and enterprise projects and committees as appropriate
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
We know you will have and be able to
- Bachelor’s degree required and at least 7 years of progressive experience specifically in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Entrepreneurship
- Proven track record of success leading gala fundraising events resulting in $1M+ revenue.
- Ability to work with high level executives and national and community board members to achieve event success.
- Proven track record of success in creating personalized, high-level proposals for a variety of donor types.
- Experience building and leading strong solicitation teams.
- Ability to travel through geographic service area with self-provided, reliable transportation.
- Strong fundraising planning and budget management skills.
- Experience building an ongoing pipeline of potential sponsors and donors.
- Demonstrated experience identifying, cultivating and closing major gifts.
- Experience in collaborating across teams in support of larger national strategies.
- Strong leadership and stewardship skills, building confidence and community to drive revenue in support of Susan G. Komen’s mission.
- Passion for the Susan G. Komen mission and a strong working knowledge of Susan G. Komen mission programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Ability to maintain flexibility and adapt in a growth environment.
- Proficiency in a Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) system.
- Travel of up to 30%.
