Job description

Echologics, a world leader in Leak Detection and Condition Assessment of Water Mains requires a Junior Project Manager (JPM) with experience within the Project Management (PM) team to conduct and manage leak detection and condition assessment projects for water pipelines. This role will be instrumental in successfully applying PM best practices to manage our rapidly growing volume of work. The successful candidate will lead a broad range of projects within the UK and internationally. This role requires project management, team building and technical experience in engineering and underground infrastructure industries. The JPM is an integral member of the project management team responsible for delivering projects of small to medium size, with a primary responsibility of the execution and ultimately the completion of projects. This role will participate in project planning, scheduling, organizing and controlling delivery activities, and ongoing governance and reporting activities.

S/he will be responsible for maintaining productive and positive relationships with key internal and external partners and stakeholders, including customers, the sales team, and the Project Management team.

Responsibilities:

  • Project management - initiate, plan, execute, monitor progress, and close projects within predefined time, cost, and scope
  • Manage project scope, forecast revenue, reduce risk, monitor project budget, costs, and margins to meet targets
  • Oversee and conduct leak detection surveys of distribution water mains and transmission main leak detection studies
  • Oversee and support project teams performing Leak Detection and Condition assessment which includes a mix of administrative tasks, client management, project management and field work
  • Client management and ensuring excellent customer service
  • Assist more senior engineers and project managers in complex projects
  • Outline the human and equipment resources required to successfully complete their projects
  • Assist managers in scheduling staff for multiple concurrent projects
  • Manage the installation and commissioning of mobile monitoring systems for transmission pipelines
  • Administrative duties such as scheduling, forecasting, time tracking, expense tracking, purchasing, and project documentation
  • Trouble shoot problems from customer, site, technical and people management perspectives
  • Utilize Project Management tools such as MS Project, or templates as needed
  • Utilize existing vendors for projects (traffic control, pothole creation, outside tech support, etc.)
  • Deal professionally with staff, customers, external contractors, and other industry contacts
  • Work in compliance with all health and safety and environmental legislation including, but not limited to, the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Echologics’ Policies, Procedures and MWP Code of Conduct
  • Being accountable for the health and safety of his/her employees and actively promote health and safety to his/her employees.  This includes, but is not limited to: ensuring employees receive appropriate safety training; conducting incident investigations; correcting substandard acts or conditions; commending employee health and safety performance; performing safety observations; conducting safety meetings
  • Other duties assigned by management

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Applied Science or Project Management certification
  • Knowledge of Project Management tools and techniques
  • 2+ years of project management experience, ideally in underground infrastructure industries
  • At least one year of work experience with a client-centric role in engineering services within the water industry focused on managing projects

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Competencies:

  • Familiarity with leak detection and condition assessment technology
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Interpersonal, communications and negotiating skills to build positive relationships and resolve issues with supporting groups and individuals and external contacts
  • Ability to handle many complex and rapidly changing tasks in parallel
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project

These are considered assets:

  • Project Management training
  • In pursuit of PMP and/or P.Eng.
  • Familiarity with water distribution systems, or experience in utility industries
  • Basic accounting knowledge
