Job description

SENIOR TAX ACCOUNTANT

Clear is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to work with our client, a Business Advisory Firm that has been operating for over 40 years, based in Western Australia. They are a professional and friendly team, providing dedicated service to various clients who operate in a variety of industries throughout Australia.

Role and Opportunity

The ideal Senior Tax Accountant will work remotely from home and join our team of specialist Accountants, Bookkeepers, etc., and be supported with appropriate systems and experienced professionals in Australia.

Purpose

Key Responsibilities of a Senior Tax Accountant

  • Prepare and review income tax returns for individuals, companies, partnerships, and trusts
  • Assist with the flow of information between the account & its clients
  • Liaise with ATO on client matters
  • Input data using Xero Online accounting software
  • Prepare draft Business Activity Statement (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statement (IAS) for further review by the offshore Accountants
  • Prepare and analyse Financial Statements, for review by the offshore Accountants
  • Prepare ATO applications such as ABN, TFN, GST, and PAYG
  • Handle business entity set-up and registration
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant taxation and other related legislation and rulings
  • Assist with bookkeeping tasks
  • Communicate with the direct manager on workflow matters
  • Prepare financial statements in accordance with all current, legal, and accounting reporting standards
  • Identify, research, and/or resolve all complex accounting issues
  • Prepare Xero Workpapers and workflow reports for clients
  • Analyse management accounting reports and provide advice to clients
  • Perform other tasks as required by the client and the management.

Other responsibilities may include:

  • Prepare clear and concise work papers as evidence of work performed
  • Apply knowledge of the business environment within which the client is operating and how the client is positioned in the industry
  • Share knowledge, best practices, and industry market trends to actively increase the overall knowledge of the team
  • Ensure processing of information into the Firms systems has been properly recorded
  • Provide other support as necessary to the client
  • Maintain current files and records accurately, and date any actions and detailed file notes
  • Participate in internal and external training as required
  • Review junior staff work papers and ensure appropriate evidence is documented
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing other tasks as requested by the client.

  • Flexibility to perform relevant tasks as required by clients.

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 5 years of full-time experience in Australian taxation and business services,
  • A high level of experience and understanding with the preparation of financial accounts for all entity types including Self-Managed Superannuation funds, preparation of income tax returns, FBT returns, and activity statements.
  • Excellent communications skills both verbally and in writing
  • Has the ability to work well unsupervised, be self-motivated, and organised.
  • Excellent computer literacy is essential in the use of BGL 360, MYOB, Xero, XPM, FYI, and cloud-based system.

Advantageous (Optional)

  • A Certified Public Accountant or its equivalent
  • Can start immediately
