MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High School Education or equivalent AND ONE (1) year of HIM Experience; OR Associate’s Degree in Health information Management (HIM)
2. Valid Driver’s License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of experience with workers’ compensation claim processes, including terminology with claims handling processes.

1. Ensure proper release of information on all requests for medical information in a timely manner from all WVUH properties in various media formats. Ensure that each request is validated in compliance with HIPAA guidelines and State/Federal Regulations. (i.e., patient name & date of birth, who to release to, from who, and specific items to be released. Identify documentation in systems and records for release requests as indicated on release and logged in request.
2. Employee will be a resource for our medical providers to ensure proper intake coding for workers’ compensation claims.
3. Assist with WVUHS employee workers’ compensation processes. May track statistical data such as injury causes and annual trends. Employee will act as overall support for Occupational Injury/Illness Team for aspects of records management (Shared documents), and injured employee folders housing signed releases for information.
4. Assist with creating PowerPoint presentations based on existing data.
5. Track follow-up physician visit dates so that records may be furnished to carriers. Relay to carrier follow-up dates/times for all new, pending, existing claims so that proper disability periods are clearly identified.
6. Communicate with injured employees to ensure proper releases of information are properly executed.
7. Act as primary conduit for workers’ compensation carrier to access any needed medical records for carrier to provide compensability rulings and provide authorizations for medically prescribed treatment.
8. Obtain authorizations for requested procedures from carrier and relay to provider, ensuring continuity of care for injured workers.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Prior experience with Microsoft Office Suite software applications, including but not limited to, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
2. Good verbal, mathematical, writing and presentation skills preferred.
