We are currently looking for a highly motivated and experienced Underwriting Team Lead. As an Underwriting Team Lead you will play a pivotal role in our mortgage operations, ensuring that loan applications are thoroughly evaluated for creditworthiness and compliance with industry standards. This position will report directly to the Underwriting Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to utilize your expertise in DE (Direct Endorsement) to contribute to our mission of providing superior mortgage services. This is a full-time remote position, offering a fantastic opportunity for those seeking a work-life balance. This position oversees policy and procedure development, drives system and technology advancements, and manages complex loan scenarios to maintain underwriting integrity. Additionally, this role ensures all underwriting decisions align with risk management strategies while maintaining compliance with company guidelines, investor requirements, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

As an Underwriting Team Leader, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing and analyzing loan applications and supporting documents to ensure they meet company and industry standards.
  • Making informed decisions on loan approvals and denials based on thorough analysis and in compliance with company policies and federal regulations.
  • Providing detailed feedback to loan officers and processors to ensure the mortgage process runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Collaborating with the loan processing team to resolve any discrepancies or issues that may arise during the underwriting process.
  • Keeping informed with changes in policies and regulations that may impact the underwriting process.
  • Assisting in training and guiding your team of DE underwriters
  • Participating in regular team meetings and contributing to the overall improvement of the underwriting process.
  • Supervising a team of 10-12 DE underwriters
 

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must possess:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Mortgage Underwriting Supervisor.
  • DE (Direct Endorsement) certification.
  • Proficiency in underwriting FHA reverse mortgages and reverse proprietary products.
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage industry regulations and guidelines.
  • Proven experience in reviewing and analyzing complex financial documents.
  • Exceptional decision-making skills with the ability to make sound judgments under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work effectively within a remote team.
  • Experience in a supervisory or team lead role is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using mortgage loan software and other related computer applications.
  • Self-directed; ability to proactively ask questions and resolve issues/ concerns
  • Strong attention to detail and problem solving abilities
