Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Chief Engineer for design and structures, in conjunction with the other Chief Engineers, has overall responsibility to provide cross-functional technology leadership and oversight for NuScale plant materials, design, and structures. This is an individual contributor role reporting to the VP of Engineering and leveraging technical experts within the functional engineering organizations to achieve desired objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Remains engaged with design and analysis work for components and structures across engineering to actively seek out and resolve integrated challenging technical issues
  2. Supports complex methodology development to promote functional organizations in work execution
  3. Assesses effectiveness of complex analysis approaches and transmittals to recommend alternatives to advance company goals
  4. Provides manufacturability and safety-related building constructability insights to help bring products to market
  5. Leads cross-functional teams to solve large/integrated technical issues
  6. Serves as a subject matter expert for ASME components
  7. Sits on engineering change board
  8. Chairs and/or participates in design reviews
  9. Provides independent expert technical reviews on key work products
  10. Oversees the development of engineering programs
  11. Provides mentoring and training in areas of expertise
  12. Remains informed of developing technologies and techniques associated with Engineering looking for creative ways of improving technology
  13. Creates formal networks and serve as an internal and/or external spokesperson for the organization regarding technology
  14. Assists business development personnel in client contacts to demonstrate the company’s design
  15. Performs other duties as assigned

  • Quality Assurance:  Working knowledge of or ability to understand the quality assurance regulations, standards and guidelines of 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1 or equivalent.

 

MINIMUM SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Education: Master’s or Doctorate degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is preferred. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Experience: A minimum of 15 years of experience for with a graduate degree, and 20 years of experience for individuals with a bachelor’s degree.  Experience must be in nuclear related engineering activities with progressively increasing technology leadership roles required. Broad background including NSSS, Civil/Structural, and BOP design experience. A current Professional Engineering and/or Structural Engineering license and prior demonstrated experience serving as an ASME component certifying engineer for design specifications or design reports is desired. Expertise with ASME Section III design and ASME Section III component fabrication are preferred.
  • Industry Requirements:  Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

 Pay and Benefits:  

The target pay range for this position is $179,958 - $217,191 annually.  The full pay range is $161,342 – $252,355.
