Job description

Position Summary

The Nephrology Global Medical Advisor, Medical Affairs, is a key member of the Medical Affairs team who will work closely with medical affairs, commercial, regulatory, clinical development, legal, pharmacovigilance, and research to develop, inform, and execute key initiatives aligned with overall strategy. Additionally, the Nephrology Global Medical Advisor, Medical Affairs, will represent Apellis at prioritized external facing meetings including engagement with external stakeholders. The successful candidate will provide critical medical and scientific insights, training, and perspectives to facilitate life cycle management, ongoing commercialization, and R&D activities collaborating closely with medical affairs and other cross functional partners.  

Role Responsibilities

  • Serve as key clinical expert in systemic complement mediated diseases, while partnering with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Commercial, Pharmacovigilance and Research teams on key initiatives including life cycle management, research programs and ongoing commercialization of EMPAVELI
  • Provide strategic and medical input into execution of medical strategy plans, including communication, congress and publication plans, as needed
  • Partner with cross functional colleagues on professional society and advocacy initiatives including projects such as registries
  • Support field medical and commercial teams with KOL engagements
  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs and HEOR on the development and execution of specific evidence generation and life cycle management initiatives to fill data and/or communication gaps in alignment with overall strategic objectives
  • Provide key clinical input into cross-functional strategy for pegcetacoplan in systemic complement mediated diseases
  • Provide insights into pipeline systemic complement programs and partner with appropriate stakeholders to integrate into the strategies for the systemic complement programs
  • Represent Apellis at key external facing clinical and scientific meetings, KOL engagements, advisory boards, and steering committees, partnering closely with field medical, medical directors, and other cross functional stakeholders as appropriate
  • Up to 50% domestic (US) and/or international travel

Education and Experience

  • Must have an Medical Degree or equivalent; clinical experience in nephrology required
  • 5-10 years experience in clinical practice
  • 2 – 5 years experience in medical affairs organization
  • Experience in drug development and commercialization preferred
