Purpose
We are seeking a skilled SQL Server Database Developer/Administrator to join our clients team. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining SQL Server databases, as well as performing database administration tasks to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability.

Tasks include:

Database Development:

• Design and implement database structures and schemas.
• Develop, optimise, and maintain stored procedures, functions, and triggers using T-SQL. 
• Write complex SQL queries for data retrieval and integration with applications.
• Ensure data integrity and security through proper design and implementation. 

Database Administration:

• Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances.
• Monitor system performance and identify bottlenecks to ensure optimal operations.
• Design and implement backup strategies, disaster recovery processes, and failover systems. 
• Perform regular database audits to identify any irregularities or potential security breaches. 
• Manage database security, roles, and profiles.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues.

Data Archiving and Warehousing:

• Design and implement data archiving solutions to ensure efficient storage and retrieval of historical data.
• Develop and maintain data warehousing solutions to support business intelligence and analytics.
• Optimise data warehouse performance and ensure data quality.

Collaboration and Support:

• Work closely with developers, engineers, and stakeholders to improve application performance and solve database-related issues.
• Provide technical support for SQL Server database environments.
• Train and support database users and developers.
• Willingness to up-skill in other database technologies and data platforms for real-time data.

Requirements: 

• This is a full-time / long term position however the client hires on a 12 month (rolling) contract - you should be prepared to work as an independent contractor/sole proprietor 
•  Proven experience as a SQL Server Database Developer and Administrator. 
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture and administration.
• Proficiency in T-SQL and SQL Server Management Studio.
• Proficiency in Azure Devops build and deployment pipelines.
• Experience with performance tuning, backup and recovery procedures, and security
• Experience with data archiving and warehousing solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Preferred Certifications:

- Microsoft Certified: Solutions Developer
- Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Administrator

Desirable skills:

• Experience with cloud platforms like Azure or AWS
• Familiarity with modern payment standards such as 3D Secure, tokenisation, or open banking
• Exposure to microservices architecture or modernisation strategies
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing in a fintech context
• Previous involvement in projects that migrated legacy systems to new architectures
