Job description

This is a remote position.

The Client has embarked on transforming the work of government to deliver simpler, more efficient, and better services for the citizens of Alberta, thereby ensuring that the needs of Albertans are effectively met in the digital age. As part of this role, the Province is expanding the client’s digital delivery of services with the view of simplifying and providing better user experiences with interactions with the client. The Digital Design and Delivery Division (“3D”), formerly the Digital Innovation Office (“DIO”), is the Province’s new centre for digital delivery. It was established to maximize capability and confidence in modern digital practice by ensuring service quality and value through standards and controls. This includes utilizing human-centred design approaches together with agile methodology and modern data practices.

Data Engineering: 

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and store large volumes of data both on-premises (SSIS etc.) and in the cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP) 

- Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and availability for analytical and operational use. 

- Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and implement solutions. 

- Optimize and improve existing data workflows and ETL processes. 

- Implement data governance and security best practices. 

- Manage data storage solutions, such as data lakes and data warehouses. 

- A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets. 

- Deploy data solutions in the cloud and with database tools (SQL, NoSQL). 

Data Analytics: 

- Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights. 

- Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations using BI tools (e.g., Power BI, SaaS VA). 

- Conduct statistical analysis and modeling to support business strategies. 

- Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. 

- Use SQL and other query languages to extract and manipulate data from various sources. 

- Create plans and strategies to integrate data models and improve service delivery. 

- Develop and share service metrics and performance dashboards. 

- Facilitate the frequent delivery of services and deliverables to ensure the successful creation of the target state while mentoring Agile Teams to grow their analytics fluency. 

- Support corporate priorities with data-driven evidence using analytics, visualizations, and data modeling. 

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT or related field of study.
Experience as a Data Analyst, Data Engineer or in a similar role.
Duration - Experience with cloud platforms, including AWS (EC2, S3, RDS), GCP (BigQuery, Cloud Storage), or Azure (Azure SQL Database, Blob Storage), with a focus on deploying scalable data solutions and optimizing data pipelines for a range of projects.
Experience with data marts, data warehousing, BI tools, etc
Experience working with querying data with Microsoft Transact-SQL Server.
Knowledge of ETL processes and tools, with hands-on experience designing and implementing data pipelines for transforming and loading data from multiple sources into data warehouses.
Experience integrating DevOps practices to the development workflow using CI/CD best practices
Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools such as Data Factory, API Management, Talend, etc.
Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages such as R, Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
Experience with the GOA IT infrastructure, business direction, strategies, shared service initiatives and/or applications
