Job description

Across the United States, 6 in 10 adults – or 133 million Americans, live with one or more chronic conditions. Chronic disease is today’s leading cause of death and disability in the US and the leading driver of the nation’s $4.1 trillion in annual healthcare costs. Patients who live with chronic conditions require far more touch points than our primary care physicians have time to deliver and the result is countless health emergencies and costly ER visits that could be prevented. Workforce shortages and lack of technologies make it difficult to give patients the attention they need.

At Cadence, our mission is to deliver life-changing care to over one million patients living with chronic disease by the end of the decade. We mitigate the impact of chronic disease by using technology and a world-class clinical team to remotely monitor, manage, and support patients at home. Together with our growing network of health system partners, we deliver guideline-directed care to tens of thousands of patients today while producing best-in-class clinical outcomes.

The Cadence team seeks a Senior ML Software Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will design and implement AI-powered solutions, leveraging machine learning and large language models, to help scale patient care. Your work will allow medical professionals to monitor, interact, and ultimately deliver life-changing care to millions of patients across the U.S. This is a unique opportunity to shape and build something from the ground up, where your vision and expertise will lay the foundation for success.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Design and Development: Architect, implement, and maintain AI-powered applications, focusing on integrating machine learning models, including large language models, into robust systems.
  • Discovery and Experimentation: Explore the latest advancements in AI/ML; experiment with new tools, frameworks, and techniques to enhance system capabilities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, product managers, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Code Review and Mentorship: Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical reviews for junior team members to foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation, and promote broader adoption of AI tools and systems across the organization.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • 4+ years experience as a Backend Software Engineer
  • 2+ years experience designing and implementing machine learning (ML) systems
  • Experience in a high-growth, fast-paced startup environment
  • Experience working in a cloud environment such as AWS or Google Cloud
  • Experience with relational databases such as Postgres or MySQL
  • Strong experience with machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn)
  • Familiarity with LLMs (e.g., OpenAI GPT, Anthropic Claude, or similar) and deploying them in production

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Familiarity with MLOps tools and practices for deploying and monitoring AI models
  • Experience with reinforcement learning or advanced optimization techniques
