POSITION OVERVIEW

The Manager of the Economic Mobility (EM)  team plays a critical operational and strategic support role, coordinating within and across New Profit’s teams, and managing the operations of EM workstreams. Given a recent influx of capital to support the growth of New Profit’s EM portfolio, the EM Manager will be a critical role working in partnership with the Portfolio team, especially the central Investment Selection team, on execution of investment selection cycles for Build and Catalyze. This engagement will range from an advisory role to a lead operational role, depending on the cycle.  Through New Profit’s Catalyze and Build support models, social entrepreneurs are selected for unrestricted grant funding, learning communities, strategic advising and coaching, and robust technical assistance from New Profit’s most senior partners. 

The EM Manager will support investment selection screening and diligence processes and work with deal partners focused on EM. The Manager will cultivate and support the dissemination of insights on EM trends through engagement with portfolio organizations, with the Support & Learn team, with the Measure & Evaluation team, and with field leaders. 

 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Economic Mobility Portfolio support and insight generation (85% of role)

  • Lead strategy and operations of economic mobility-Build cycles, with support/alignment with central Investment Selection team
    • Manage engagement and communication with Economic Mobility Advisory Council- external leaders engaged in investment selection cycles 
    • Lead preparation for and debrief of every stage of the process: discovery form, application, screening and diligence 
    • Prepare for, facilitate, and follow up from decision-making meetings with Investment Committee made up of senior leadership; draft presentation materials, facilitation guide, talking points  
  • Participate in Build grant-making cycles’ screening and diligence processes. In collaboration with a New Profit Partner, conduct rigorous research on prospective grantee-partners, develop presentations to New Profit’s internal Investment Committee, and write compelling memos that contain nuanced qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Provide advisory support to economic-mobility aligned Catalyze teams on investment selection
  • Act in supportive role on Catalyze strategic advising, and select EM-Build deal projects
  • Coordinate across teams focused on learning and insight generation to identify best practices and emerging trends for EM organizations, in order to codify insights for field leadership and funder communications.
  • Support pipeline development for EM portfolio: including some attendance of external conferences and meetings, leading discovery calls, engaging with external partners
 

Internal/External Strategic Leadership (15%)

  • Prepare for, facilitate, and follow up from “critical path” meetings (e.g., with partners, investors and other funders, and with the senior management team).
  • Help drive internal and external understanding of the EM strategy and fundraising objectives in coordination with org. wide strategic priorities
  • Manage, as the opportunity arises, team members who are interns, associates, and senior associates
  • Support Managing Partner in preparing presentations, reports and public communications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 to 9 years of relevant professional experience (e.g., nonprofits, philanthropy, management consulting, venture capital, project management);
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team  in a fast-paced environment, simultaneously manage multiple projects/people and effectively prioritize time and tasks;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, both oral and written;
  • Excellent listening skills; ability to distill insights from listening and make recommendations to the team to inform current and future program design
  • Creative, learning-oriented problem solver;
  • Effective at building internal and external relationships and collaborative work environments;
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented;
  • Adaptable and able to respond to shifts in processes, responsibilities, expectations or trends;

SALARY

The salary range for the Manager position will be $94,877 - $108,579 annually, with the exact salary depending on prior work experience and the assessment of one's fit for the role. Additionally, New Profit provides a suite of competitive benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, and a generous PTO policy with an end-of-year holiday break.
