If you're passionate about tackling difficult problems with direct and thoughtful communication and team first mentality, we may be the right place for you.

About the Role

As a Technical Artist at Fortis Games, your mission is to support the art team by developing efficient tools, optimizing asset pipelines, and implementing visual features. You will work closely with art, engineering, and design teams to ensure seamless integration of assets and maintain performance standards, particularly for mobile and Unity-based projects.

This role focuses on tool creation, automation, and visual feature implementation, helping streamline the production pipeline while ensuring high-quality visual experiences. You will develop test scenes, automate workflows, and optimize assets to enhance the overall efficiency of the game development process.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and maintaining art pipeline tools in Unity and DCC software (Blender, Substance, Maya, Photoshop).
  • Importing and implementing art assets, ensuring both technical and visual quality while adhering to performance constraints.
  • Creating tools and automation scripts to improve workflow efficiency for the art team.
  • Implementing visual features such as timelines, simple animations, and basic VFX within Unity.
  • Optimizing assets for mobile platforms, ensuring efficiency in draw calls, polycounts, overdraw, and shader performance.
  • Working closely with engineers and artists to troubleshoot issues and refine technical workflows.
What You’ll Achieve
  • Efficient asset integration pipelines that enhance collaboration between art, engineering, and design teams.
  • Optimized tools and automation scripts that streamline art workflows and improve iteration speed.
  • Improved performance and visual fidelity through effective asset optimization and Unity best practices.
  • Smooth implementation of simple animations and visual effects, enhancing player immersion.
  • A solid foundation in technical problem-solving, ensuring that assets meet performance and quality standards across multiple projects.
What You’ll Need to be Successful
  • Proficiency in Unity, with a focus on asset implementation, tool development, and visual feature integration.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as C# or Python for tool and automation development.
  • Understanding of mobile performance optimization, including draw calls, overdraw, polycount limits, and shader efficiency.
  • Familiarity with Unity’s Universal Render Pipeline (URP) and best practices for mobile game development.
  • Basic knowledge of rigging, animation, or procedural content generation (a plus).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to art assets and pipelines.
  • Good collaboration and communication skills, working effectively with cross-functional teams.
